Things I have to get used to....

....since I sold my honda civc coupe and got my TL. :p
btw this may help persuade some fellow upgraders and help them decide!
you guys feel free to pitch in and add to my list!

1: It's so quiet I can hardly tell its running...even on the freeway lol. (and no my windows don't squeak)
2: It feel like it's about 2,000 pounds heavier.
3: It responds like it's 2,000 pounds lighter.
4: I can now pass cars that are in my way...like they are parked.
5: The seatbelt retracts itself (lol its kind of a common civic problem ive heard)
6: I don't get lost anymore and I have a sexy voice to guide me home.
7: It costs about $15-20 more to fill up each time. (the civic's tank is about 5 gallons less i think)
8: It's much harder to see in my blind spots. The B pillar is thick.
9: I no longer get out of my car after driving for more than 30 mins and groan or have to stretch. I actually tear up when I have to say goodbye...even if it's just to fill up the tank. lol
10: The cutoff where the top of the headlight beam is very abrupt...its like you can see everything below it but nothing above it...and when I'm going over a crest, people often flash me thinking my highbeams are on.
11: My butt stays warm.
12: There's ALWAYS something on the radio(s) that I am interested in listening to.
13: It's MUCH easier to mess up the wheels with the lower profile tires. When I drive carefully, I drive SLOWLLYYY.
14: The throttle in reverse is very touchy. Must be very careful in tight places...usually no gas at all for me.
15: So much more tunk space!!!!!

feel free to comment or add more!

LOL, seems like a lot of guys are moving from a 98 civic to TL.

I have a 98 VSM civic w/ 150,000 miles on it and trying to sell it. Will be having my TL next week... Hooray for upgrades!

Oh yeah, thanks for the heads up.

I had a 94 Civic coupe Ex, then went to a 98 Accord coupe V6 Ex, Now I have the 04 TL. I will prob. keep the TL for at least 5 more year, I like it a lot. I don’t see myself moving up to an RL so I hope the next TL is nice because I’m sure that’s what I will be driving.

Actually, I'm going down from a 04' TL to a 06' Civic Si w/ Navi.

See thread for reason: https://acurazine.com/forums/car-talk-5/origin-rice-cars-137984/

Going to Miss:
1. Large Trunk Space
2. The "theoretical" 270HP
3. Seat warmers
4. The interior space
5. The stable feeling going 100+ MPH
6. Those warm blue instrument lights....OOooooHHH!!!!
7. Quiet interior
8. HID!!!!!!!!!!

Not Going to Miss:
1. The door closing on my leg
2. The extra gas money pumping 93 octane (got 22Avg MPG on my Auto)
3. The rattle of the subwoofer.....may only be me but according to the dealer, the "engineers are working on it"
4. Huge A pillar.
5. The leather seats developing cracks after heavy use
6. Momentary loss of power when hitting speed bumps and extreme U turns.
7. EL42 - nuff said!
8. The frequent trips to the dealership for service.

I went from a '98 civic to an '06 TL last December.

I agree with your points plus I'd like to add it's nice not having to reach down with your left hand to close both the sunroof and driver's window.

The door check isnt very strong, I've gotten a nasty bruise from the door closing on my leg. And I completely agree with the visibility statements. The A/B/C pillars are HUGE. I realize this helps with body rigidity for safety and handling, but there needs to be a better compromise.

TL visibility seems OK, and better than many...

The TL's A pillars are pretty thick compared to older cars and Civics, probably due to all the safety and airbag stuff, but I (5'9" and 165lbs, normal physique I hope...) do not have a problem with visibility being blocked by the B and C pillars. In fact, I was surprised that the visibility out of the TL is much better than many of the upscale cars close to TL's class (S80, Infiniti G and M, Avalon, CTS, etc.). The worst aspect of rear visibility for many of the other cars was due to the rear headrests blocking huge amounts of rearward visibility, which the TL's headrests do not do when they are pushed down.
The driver's door check on the TL sometimes does let the door bounce back towards the car, though, so I have to prep for it by opening carefully or bracing my leg close to the door before it starts closing!

2000 EBP SI with 99K to an 06' TL. I do miss the CAI @ vtec,my audio setup and being able to spot my car from 500 yards away. TLs are seen everywhere. NAVI, Back-up camera, HFL & Ipod integration make up for it.

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is an A-pillar? I read a couple of definitions, but I still a bit unclear.

I never knew you could push back the headrest on the backseats.

I agree with everything listed by the original poster. I came from not a 98 Civic, but a 98 Integra with 170,000 miles.

The A pillar is the foremost set of pillars with the windshield between them.

The B pillar is where the driver and passenger seat belts are mounted

The C pillar is the back windshield.

Thats true regarding its competition, its quite normal for cars these days.

Keep in mind though, I've owned a TL of each generation (and still have my '97) with a whopping 310 degrees of visibility. Something very few cars can match. Each generation has had decreasing amounts of visibility causing huge blind spots, something Hondas NEVER had in the past.

Even the jump from 2003 TL to 2005 was noticeable in terms of visibility. The rear is now quite high up. I remove the rear headrests if no one is sitting back there.

i miss alot of the features that my 01 BMW X5 had, rain sensing wipers, backup/front parking sensors, excellent ride quality/handling and the conveniece of an SUV, but overall, the TL is a great value of features for what you pay. For me to get a similary equiped BMW would have cost me about $11,000 for a sedan and even more for another X5, so it was almost a no brainer.....

I came into my 2006 TL from a 2001 Civic, and I'll definitely miss 34 MPG.

I won't miss...feeling like every other weenie on the road driving a Civic.

I got 34 mpg at an average of 65 mph on a recent interstate trip. Good engineering.
Hey - I have that door-shuts-on-my-leg thing too. I hadn't seen that complaint before.

I went from a 97 Integra GSR to a 06 TL auto. Due to my lady i had no choice to get an Auto. She can't drive a Manual =(

a little disappointed in the sound system. but heard good things about dvd audio. I will give it a try. I hope it produces better sound then the cd-r.

Also i almost ran over a pedestrian. While i was making a quick left i did not see him walking and it's all because of the A pillar it is so damn thick, it blinded me. Also the B pillar too. same situation, gotta be careful for blind spot.
