Thermometer Limits?

Does the TL's outside temperature thermometer only go to 99 degrees? We're in a hot spell with temperatures over 100 and all I get is --- on the display. Is this normal?

No- the outside thermometer should go higher, but "---" shows up when there is a problem. Mine once read 104*F, then "---" for a short time before stabilizing and dropping to 102, 101, etc. as the afternoon waned.

IIRC, there was a TSB for this issue (where the temp wouldn't read above 99*).

I thought the temp display maxed out and showed "---" at 105* or 115*

(I can't get to an Owners Manual to check the max display temp).

If it gets too hot while sitting you get ---. I have seen 115+- on mine when it gets that hot outside here on a regular basis. It can only cool down a few degrees per mile so it will read correctly again over time if you keep driving.

My 04's maxed out at 115. Don't know if this changed with other MY's. I'm not sure about my 08 yet.

Mine was definitely at 104 yesterday... I was confused at first by the triple digits, actually skipped by it when cycling through the display options =P.

If it flatlines and continues to flatline, not returning to displaying a valid temperature, you need to fix this. Otherwise if your car sits for, say a week, expect your battery to be dead as a door nail.

It's an easy fix. Either remove the negative battery cable for about 3-5 seconds, or remove a fuse (not sure whether it's fuse 7 or 21 but do a search on "flatline" and you'll turn this info up).

This happened to me 7 weeks after I bought my '04 and some other members have seen this happen as well.

111 is my max then its ---. How bad is it that this discussion is happening in June rather than July or August?

I have seen mine hit 115. Over the past week, it has frequently hit 102 in several places around where I live. And I know it's accurate because back when it failed on me seven weeks after I bought the car, I calibrated it myself.
