Is there a DIY guide on how to open and seal tail lights?

I ran into this guide in the DIY garage, but my problem with it is it doesn't go much into detail.

http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=734158

Where is the ideal place to cut it open?
Does it need to be baked in the oven like the headlights? If so, how hot and for how many minutes?
What should I use to reseal the tail light assembly?

I can't afford paying down payment deposit for spare tail lights while mines are being worked on, + $150 for labor, + shipping cost of sending it back and forth, + painting supplies. All of that adds up to a hefty amount just for something that I believe I may be able to tackle myself.

I want to open up my tail light assembly to paint the bezels black like these.

Is there a guide that I missed while searching that explains in-depth process on opening the tail light assembly? Or did everyone just send it to a vendor to get modded lol

you dont need to bake it just use a dremel. It is much much harder than doing the headlight tho so be warned. This is prly more like a weekend job not just a saturday evening kind of thing. It varies where you want to cut I think those threads show you. Basically the lens is molded into the black plastic so you just want to find the best are where you can cut the black plastic and easily glue it all back together. You will notice there is sort of a lip in the black plastic that the clear lense nested into when they were glued together if you cut right along this lip on the side opposite of the lense that will be the easiest. The inner portions of the lights are the trickiest since you have to cut through two layers. Good luck and take your time!

Just be sure to take your time with the cuts. I posted some pics in this thread https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=618762&page=4 of the cuts I made, and I believe I explained the process pretty well. The hardest part for me was sealing them back up. I used JB weld but it's pretty messy stuff.

Awesome thanks. Looks a lot harder than I anticipated. Starting to have second thoughts about doing it myself now since I don't have a dremel nor experience using one lol

I did my taillights and they were a pain in the ass. If I ever do another set, a vendor will be doing them for me.

Holy hell- I just did the first one today and it was quite a bitch. I didnt screw anything up yet, but it was a mother effer getting the bezel out cause I didnt cut it close enough to the lens. The DIY writeups arent specific enough, you have to cut SUPER close to the lens in order to get the bezel out, and its gonna be even harder getting it back in without scratching it. I might have to sacrifice my old set of type-s tails that are on the car now if I have too much of a gap when I go to put these back together... I definitely recommend getting a vendor to do it- Im just too cheap and I like to do everything myself.
