Tha TL's Time Might Have Expired
Today at work i noticed my boss had the gs430 the car i have been wanting for about 6 months now. I was talking to him about it for about twenty minutes. He then said come on lets go for a ride. He opened it up on side streets nice sound not cheap but not silent engine sound. The interior is just perfect. Then he pulled over and told me to drive. I was liek you trust me? He said dont worry i trust your brother(dun worry). So i drove it. It picks up quicker than the tl. 0-60 quicker. Better handling. Nicer ride. Beatiful stock rims. More interior room. Sport mode/sport shift, dvd player in dash the whole nine yards. And let me tell you i have felt a lot of sterring wheels but this stearing wheel id by far the most comfortable to the hand. I was in awe the whole ride. I am going to look at one soon. If the numbers are right im going to have to give up the tl. Only time will tell.

dude u do realize that the gs430 cost alot more than the TL right? with all the options he added he probably paid about 60K for it. how can you compare a car that costs 35K to a 60K? doesn't make sense dude. u might as well compare the TL to a E500 its about the same price as the GS430.

The Lexus should be nicer. The GS300 RWD has a base sticker over $43,000 and the GS430 RWD has a base sticker over $51,000. That is a lot more money than a TL

I was able to dream about cars I couldn't afford at 17 too.

Yeah, $60K+ for that car...and the car magazines think it has a very detached feel. They say that they can tell there is good car under there somewhere, but it is heavily isolated by too many electronic nannies. I would save $5-10K and buy an Infiniti M45 and lay waste to the GS430. Car mags agree too!
I will be completely satistifed with my TL 6-speed. (2 days to go!)
Just what every 17 year old needs...a $60K Lexus!!

I really think that lexus is overpriced. You can get something better for a smililar or less expensive price. Or something much better for a bit more. Honestly, i think that is a pussy car. Looks liek the kind of car 26 yr old whores drive around in. A bitch girl car.

Not the very good comparison...

That GS430 should be better. If not, I cannot imagine why ppl will waste their $$$ to get one. TL and that car are in the different class...

Again like everyone said... apples to oranges.. but i tell you what..
When lexus redesigned the GS they should have added some HP, cause a redesign without more HP is just F$&*ing stupid IMO.
Nice car I like it.. wouldn't get one cause if I wanted a sports car I will buy a SPORTS car, our TL is a luxury car and is just fine how it is... of course we could improve on things (butt prints, rattles etc etc) but for ~35K you can't ask for more of a car.. The audi is no where near the HP or options base as our car and if you do get the options you are looking at well over 40K with still WAY less HP. It got us in the AWD area yeah.
Lexus.. again too $$$ for the car. Dedesign without adding the most important part of the car (engine) is a NO NO in my book.

(I love my TL) but I am GETTTING a sports car next.

Don't get the GS430, get the new IS350 if you have to have a lexus. Looks better, cheaper, and will have the same or even more horsepower than the GS430. Won't have the same torque, but the car will be a lot lighter.
Also, if you happen to be over 6' you won't fit in the GS, I sat in one this weekend and my head was hitting the headliner even with the seat all the way down. I came away very unimpressed. My TL is way more comfortable.

I'm pretty lucky in the deal I got. I paid for half the car up front, cahs, and my parents covered the rest. I pay half my insurance and all the repairs and mods, and my dad pays for gas from his business, but I have to work for him for free during the school year.
I make 8 an hour working 20 hours a week and can barely afford to modify my car having minimal payments, let alone afford 800 a month just on a car + gas, insurance, maintnence etc.
Someones helping A LOT.

I test drove Gs, M45, and RL
GS is the worst of the three, there is a very annoying bump on driver side near pedal. very annoying
RL- interior nicer than GS, ride is better, exterior looks, gs wins, overall better than GS
M45- best of the three. Engine is great, interior is nice, though rl is better, well the m35 competes with the RL, I would go with the M35 because its roomier, im a tall guy.

You gotta give the GS some credit, they are built like tanks. My dad got the very first one of the truck when they came out in 92 and in 60k+ miles in 3 years there was never a single problem. Unlike most firsty MY cars today that have quite a few problems that need to be worked out. They aren't #1 in reliability for no reason at all.

Well beleive it. Its called busting your ass while your young for what you want. Just think about it at the least u make 400 a week thats 1600 a month 800 to the car say liek 150 to gas thats 650 left for modding and spending money so say like 400 a month elft for modding and thats only making 400 a week its really not that hard to understand

Doing what? How often you working and how much an hour?
I find it hard to believe you make 400 a week. Thats working full time making 8 an hour or part time (20 hrs a week) making 16 an hour. And it would have to be more than that since taxes take out a bit of that money.

He is saying the GS430 would come in around $800 a month on a lease payment and that he has a take home of about $1600 per month.
Now I cannot even imagine spending 50% of my take-home a car that is going to just depreciate.
Being 17, you will do what you want. I can't help but add in my though. Put the down payment you intended for the GS on a purchase of a TL. Whatever your payment is, pay that same $800 per month toward the purchase of the TL. Within 3 years, you will have the TL paid off and own it outright. The car will be worth approximately $18-20K at that time. Put that down on whatever car you want to buy at that time. At least then you would have a serious down payment and something to brag about...

ok in order to make 400 a week you have to make about 10 bucks an hour which is not that hard to find but that means you work a 40 hour work week. but this is before taxes. after taxes you are looking at about 300 a week. so 1200 a month take home is what you are looking to make. spending 800 a month on a $1200 income towards car payments is pretty immature. i can understand that you are young and when i was your age i dreamed of cars i could not afford. i still dream about cars i cannot afford today but i don't act upon it. i could spend 75% of my monthly income on a car and probably get a porsche or something but it's a rediculous notion. also when you are spending 40 hours a week when do you find time for school? i can't imagine anyone this day and age not putting school first. its probably the one thing for me(and probably almost everyone) that has put me ahead in life.

I totally forgot, whos name is your insurance under? CAN'T be yours otherwise you'd have to be making a fortune to afford a new TL. If my car was insured under my name, it would cost 6k a year (gotta love Jersey). Let alone coverage on a car thats worth twice that amount.

I busted my ass for what I wanted when I was young too - full time course load and a full time job, along with a couple of semesters of co-op to bolster my resume. A year after graduating and getting a good job, I went back to school for my advanced degree. Of course, I was aiming a little higher than a car.
If you're not busting your ass now for an education, then you're going to spend the rest of your life busting your ass just to get by, but at least you'll have fond memories of the nice car you had for two years before going broke at 20 when the real world and rent, food, taxes, insurance, utilities, retirement, medical bills, and everything else mommy and daddy are covering now start busting your ass even faster than you can bust it yourself.
I know a few people who went right to work so they could start gaining experience and earning wages right out of high school. They were pretty hot stuff then because they had the cash and the nice cars and those of us in school did not. Now, however, they are all economically stressed and professionally frustrated because they didn't invest enough in themselves when they had the chance.
Instant gratification goes away as fast as it arrives.

I dont see why a lot of you people are hating on the young people(like myself) with nice cars. I wont lie - my father got my me 04TL, even though i never asked him to, nor did i ever mention to him to get me a car of any kind.
though he is paying for my car, i am sort of paying it off for him. I took courses over the summer to get an insurance brokers licence and a real estate licence, so i could help my father out in his businesses. Sometimes during the week i go to one of our restaurants or pizzarias to help out with the cooking and cleaning (good experience for me to learn how to cook). On top of that, i travel in total of 3 hours a day to get to college. I go to a competitvie school, NYU, in downtown manhattan - i take a 20minute drive from my house to a train station, and then take an hour and 10 minutes long subway ride. I think i work pretty hard at home, in school, and with my fathers businesses. I still have time to have some great fun with my college friends and go out. To tell you the truth, i dont appreciate seeing such "mature" people bashing on the young ones. Your making yourself look more foolish then a teenager who grew up on the streets. Many of you whiners dont sound your age at all, you just sound like a bunch of bitches.

And I highly doubt hes making what he says he is. He'd have to be making 20 an hour, assuming he works 20 hrs a week which is quite a bit while in school.
And as long as your not cocky about your parents getting you your car, most people don't seem to car. The few that do are just jealous usually. This kid sounds like hes talking out his ass, which I think people are comming down on him, and even then its tame compared to other parts of the forum, and how those people would react.
