Test drove a TL for the first time and...

it was late in the afternoon when the sun was low so both the salesman and I put our sun visors down.

Both of those things rattled and vibrated over every little bump in the road. Is this a common problem or maybe just specific to this on TL.

Sounds like it is just specific to that ride. Mine has no problems

The 04 I test drove last weekend didn't have that problem.

Were the end of the sun visors pushed into the clips that retain them? If they are pulled out of the clips so they can be moved around, but are left near the windshield, they will probably vibrate or rattle because they are noy being supported properly.

If they were pushed into the retaining clips and still rattled, they should be fixed before the car is sold, because they shouldn't do that.

If you forgot to put it back into clips, you will hear terrible rattles all day long. Ron A is right, and I think this is normal.

But my sun visor would make noise itself when you're not touching it. My dealer gave me a new one in March and fixed this issue.

Mine did too (if you moved it to the "down" position and tapped on it gently, you could hear something loose inside it) so I had it replaced. However, I still get some rattles near that area, most likely from the light touching the cover of the mirror.

had this same problem ...

... the sun visors would rattle because the plastic cover for the vanity mirrors are not damped. its plastic hitting plastic. so instead of going to the dealer, i fixed it myself!

all you need is a piece of rubber feet (??) -- i dont have the correct terminolgy for these things but theyre usually placed on the bottom of bookshelf speakers to prevent the speakers from scratching table tops. you can get them from staples or i guess your local hardware store. just place one right below the vanity, where the plastic housing meets the plastic vanity cover and voila -- no more rattles!

hope this helps!

Mine rattles when down. It is in the clips its just that the mirror visor rattles because its not damped like the earlier poster stated.

Doesn't usually bother me, since I don't really use the sun visors much.
