Exclamation Tail light mods

I want to smoke out my tails..... I want to stay legal cause this is my daily driver....
I have been eyeing up this kit through ebay....

They are just covers and you have to take apart oem tail light assembly and replace gaskets

Anybody ever done this and how difficult is it?

I'm confused... if they are covers then why would you need to take the tails apart?

If all you're looking for is smoked tails then you could always do smoked-vinyl. No removing of parts necessary.

OP post link

I have never heard of covers. There are only the aftermarket ones (depo brand).

Same post a link, never heard of covers. But as far as I know any kind of tint on tail lights or headlights is illegal. Might as well get your tail light nodded by one of our venders here. I got the Depo brand on eBay and still haven't had any problems with local PD

depo is your best bet unless you're talking about tinting them. in MN it's legal to a point but might as well get the depo tails and call it a day.

Some covers are really dark. Forget the legal issue, they are just unsafe unless you like to get rear-ended on a sunny day. I can't tell you how many times I almost hit the back of someone's car because of blackouts.

If you do them with a light smoke, they are totally fine and the light shines through with no problem. I've had mine like that since 2006 and I've been ticketed only once. Realize the tail lights are DOT approved as the OEM designed them but once you overlay them with anything, you alter them you're pretty lose that. So if the cop wants to argue from that angle you can't win. But they are not smart enough to do that.

Here's the thing that not everyone realizes: According to the letter of the law most states don't actually have laws against this. The cop said "You can't have dark tail lights." I said why not? Ever heard of a TransAm? Lincoln Continental? Jaguar XJ6? Lexus RX? etc etc. Not all cars have standard RED tail lights. The cops don't actually know the law as much as you think and they don't expect you to know any better. I took it to court and argued that the law only says that there needs to be a red reflector and that the brake lights need to be operational and visible from 500ft. I took pics to prove that and the judge dismissed it. You just need to know how to talk to these guys. I keep a copy of the law in my car now
