Synthetic Oil and MID

I was thinking of using synthetic oil when it's time for my next oil change. However, will the MID know there's synthetic oil in the car and adjust the oil life indicator accordingly? Is there a setting the mechanic sets in the MID?

Well, to my understanding lets say the oil life is 15k for synthetic?

The mid seems to hit 0% around 7000miles or so, so i guess you could reset the MID manually once it hits zero percent.

There are a lot, I mean a lot of posts about that on here already! No way you did a search! Just do one for synthetic oil or oil change and you should get what you need!

There are a lot of discussions on this topic already so you might try searching again.

No the MID will not know you have synthetic oil in the car. I plan on switching to synthetic on my next oil change. When the MID tells me to change my oil again I'll change the filter, take an oil sample and top it off, then change the oil the next time it's due... as long as the middle sample comes back good. I'll probably end up with about 16k or so on the oil.

I'm sure a lot of people will feel I'm going too long on the oil, and that I'm going to damage my engine. I've been doing extended change intervals for years and I've never had a bad oil sample and never had a lubrication related engine problem.

MrF: and when you top off, reset the MID.

its not worth the extra money to me. i use mobil extended life and chage it according to the mid. even if i went with syn. i would change when the mid prompted. its about a 5-7K interval, which is long enough IMO.

Definitely agree, why skimp on oil expense when it's your engine.
