Switchblade key

Has anyone retrofitted their 04-06 key to a 07-08 switchblade key? Is it a diy or a pain to do?

^you have to buy the switch back key at like 100-120.
then you have to go get it programmed at the acura dealer for some outrageous price.

I deemed it too expensive, just to have a switch back key

Theres also some taiwanese companies on ebay that sell the switchblade key with the blank for the 04-06 for like 60 bucks. You still have to get it programmed, but if you get a Fly100 you can do it yourself.

I bought one of the all in one keys like the MDX has, but not a switchblade. The blank wasnt the best quality but it worked and I used my fly100 to program it. Everything works fine.

Yeah, you can use it to do the replace ecu command for a hondata, which I think the HDS will do.

The fly100 doesnt have to connect to Honda 'mothership' system to program keys. It will program the key to your immobilizer without the uplink which is nice. No more dealer visits!

I think some people here are confused about what you want to do.
You want to retrofit your existing key into a switchblade, not buy a new switchblade right?
If so, you don't have to even mention the word dealership, or "program".
You're swapping over the internals of your existing key to a switchblade body, so everything is still the same, except in a new body. No need to program anything except for the keyfob of the switchblade, which you can do at home.

This is what I do:

1. Buy a USED switchblade on eBay for like $30-$40.
2. Use the DIY that SJOHN just linked and swap everything over (the blade, and the immobilizer chip)

I've done it about 4 times now, including one time for swoosh.

If you want, send your key and I can do it.

I bought one of the TL-S (compatible with all TL 2004-2008) from HeelToe and had it cut to match my spare. Programmed the lock by myself, but had to have my local dealership program the immobilizer chip in my key.

Fastline Performance Milled TL-S Switchblade Key : Memory 1 for 2004-08 all Acura TL & TSX - HeelToe Automotive

You can get the chip swapped, key cut, and have a new switchblade for $178. Crazy as this thread popped up as earlier I was thinking of getting new key fobs...great minds think a like, but anyway hope this helps you out.

Do you remember how much the stealership cost to program the key fob?

Only the key has to be programed to start the car. You can do the fob remote yourself.

The fly100 is a programmer you can get on ebay that will let you program keys without going to the dealer. It can also be used to replace the ecu when getting a hondata in an 04-06. They run about 140 bucks.

I bought mine from healtoe, and cut open my old key and swapped transponders. Went to lowes and got it cut for free. I just took the key portion itself after taking it apart. I had gotten a Chinese one and it was terrible. The locksmith actually cut it, and got it stuck in the ignition. He cut and programmed my milled Accord transponder for $20.

I think my stealership charged my $40 to get the immobilizer chip programmed.
