Surprising source of my open-throttle rattle found
I've managed not to complain about all of the rattles in my '04 TL 5AT, but I just found the cause of one.
Often when I launch the car at full throttle, there is a horrid buzzing sound. I thought it was coming from inside the dash.
But its not! Its that little plastic plug on the silver bezel at the base ofthe shift lever -- the one you remove to insert a key to release it from park in case of a power failure.
Its amazing how much noise that little plug makes as it vibrates.
One down, who knows how many to go -- honestly, the 1997 Pontiac Grand Am with 120,000 miles that I trade in for it had NO RATTLES.
