Stupid question...

I agree this is stupid but it bothers the shit out of me. How the hell do so many people curb their wheels? 98% of the wheels in the blackmarket have some pretty massive curb damage. I have had my wheels for 4 years and I have NEVER hit a curb, EVER? How the fuck you you do that anyway? Do you all let your girlfriends drive your cars? Are they Asian? My wifer is Asian and she only gets to drive my car with me in it, when I am drunk. Shit, I never even hit a curb when I was drunk!

Well, to answer your question, I just got my wheels refinished because of "curb kisses". I did this trying to park as close to the curb as possible, so I would not get a door ding. So I guess I traded one dent for another.

I wasnt careful, the one day that I wasnt paying attention to the curve of the road and bam, I bounced off the curb.
Pretty careless move.

the one and last time, I'll do that.

most people curb their wheels because they are not paying attention, or they just dont care, like some female drivers i know.

I have never curbed my rims.

They were curbed up when I bought the car =(

I'm not sure if someone else drove my car and curbed it (such as my sister).

Your question reflects on your own self. How much tight city parallel parking do you do? You sure seem nice to your wife. Lucky her. Don't drive drunk.

Same thing has happened to me. I've curbed my wheels twice. Once while backing into a tight space next to a curb. The other while turning in a cramped Starbucks drive-thru. Previous owner did the other two rims. It doesn't really bug me as its barely noticeable on the TL's stock rims. Now if they were darker colored rims...I'd be very annoyed.

I think it also depends on the car you are used to driving. When we moved up from a Civic to an Accord i curbed the @#%$! wheels a few times because the car was wider than I was used to. going from the Accord to the TL - never curbed the rims as both cars are almost the same width.

I've curbed my wheels a few times. I've had the thing for more than two years, and it's still tough to know where the right side wheels are when you're parallel parking.

All I can say is 60 series tire FTW

I thought the same thing until a few days ago when I slid on ice and put my front drivers side wheel into a curb. The damage is barely noticable, maybe 2" long, but it still bugs the shit out of me.

Your car isn't the Mona Lisa that is worth millions and nothing can happen to it, it's a machine that is used to get you from A to B, and shit is inevitably going to happen to it. You've just gotta be careful and put driving as your number one priority while behind the wheel; I see too many people talking on the phone, texting, etc while driving.

I never have, but I let someone drive my car the other day and that was the first thing he did, curb my back wheel, 1st curb on my A-specs . Im like Steven Bell where I parak close to the curb to avoid door dings so I know how to get out of the parking space but dude who got in the car didnt.

Parallel park enough and you will eventually curb a wheel. I've done it parallel parking on a cul-de-sac. It used to really bother me but there are worse things in the world to worry about.

Old lady merged into my lane while I was right next to her. Decided to pull right scraping the curb instead of being sideswiped and stomped it to get by. Thankfully no one was in front of me.

I've curbed about 3 or 4 A-Spec rims in the time I owned my car. It was carelessness and nothing more. Always happened at some weird curb deal like a mailbox dropoff or some unusually narrow drive through at a turn that was also built about 6 inches wider than the car. Nonetheless....anytime it happened I can always recall thinking to myself...damn....was just not really paying attention close enough there was I!

A-Spec coffee table anybody? lol I probably have enough old rims...lol.

this.

living in or near baltimore city requires you to parallel park 90% of the time. luckilly, i've since moved back to the county so i get the luxury of a parking spot.

i got the TL in june of this year, and the 2nd day i had it, i went thru an unfamilar ATM drive thru. on my way out...crunch...my rear passenger wheel scraped this concrete slab that had no reason to be where it was anyway. you could see previous damage on the curb where many other people like myself did the same thing. to this day i cant make sense of why that concrete was there...

the one wheel wasn't even that bad, bark was worse than the bite. it's maybe 3" long and easily fixed when i have the time.

I did it once in 100,000 miles and it was this odd corner that stuck out an extra 4" in one spot. I used to do a lot of parallel parking and never scraped. With the mirrors that tilt down how do you scrape the curb when parallel parking?

I park extremely close to curbs when in parking lots to avoid door dings. I always take a look at the curb length and angle of the car when getting back in so I know when to cut the wheel without curbing them.

I've been running 255s on stock rims for 50,000 miles now so if I ever hit a curb I would be covered.

Could be.

Or possibly just dont value or cars as much as we did at one point in our life. Its a car....you drive it...shit happens.

Honestly, when its happened to me....I usually have a million other things on my mind that are fairly pressing so at the time it happens my reaction tends to be minimal to nonexistant till later when I think about it more.

Age just brings about more stress and more pressing issues honestly. A rim is fairly insignificant in the big picture so to speak. So old people probably do tend to dupe more wheels than most.

Never made contact with a curb on any wheel and to many it's insignificant if they did, but to others a major catastrophe.

Be careful of the “CTS-V Import Slayer” as it may come back to bite you, naturally dependant on the import.

Lol. Reminds me when I put some of those old Calvin pissing stickers on my GN for the night just to harass the imports. I covered pretty much every model lol. I pulled into the Taco Bell parking lot where they all met up to race and sat around until the fireworks started. In about a minute my car was swarmed with angry import owners. My main goal was to piss them off to make money from them. I got all kinds of trash talk but not one of them would race me for money so it was kind of a waste. I got a ton of "I will race you when I get my turbo kit" lol.

one thing I hate about the stock Michelin Pilots is they damn rim sticks out from the tire. So if/when you do curb it its massive...plus dark colored rims...makes for an ugly day. Nothing some anthracite metallic touch up paint can't solve. sucks though.

I heard that from some 4 cylinder guys before . I curb my rim when I went to school early and turn the wheel too much ( never never let it happen again ).

Good point. I remember how different my TL was than my Altima. Took me some time to get use to it.

I can see how it'd be very easy to curb a rim while parallel parking, regardless of tilting mirrors or backup cameras. My objective when parallel parking: getting the hell out of the way of the traffic that's waiting for me.

Wasn't making an excuse, just was saying how mine happened on the OEM ones.
And to answer ur question. We ended up not watching the movie. Argued about how she thought I loved my car too much and put it ahead of her in my priorities after yelling at her when it happened.

So true. No one likes that guy which takes 20 mins to park when theres a line waiting on his ass. I hate downtown Denver.

It's pretty easy to do and I have done it twice in 4.5 years. Fortunately, some good touch up paint makes the issue much less noticeable. In both cases, I was getting close to the curb for ding protection so it happens to the best of us and kills you when it happens.

Matt: Tried to PM but n/a.
Feel like a little kid that needs to explain everything they say and do, e.g. he said, she said. My response would have been the same if it was GM Slayer, Domestic Car Slayer, Ford Slayer, etc. There is always something that is quicker, and to use your example with the 600+HP GN enticing the imports to race, it's like having the 1025HP Supra or the 880 HP RX7 go to a classic muscle car meet and say Who wants to race, sorry but rediculous.
Have a great day.

I think you took that the wrong way.

I would much rather be out there with some close racing than playing the bully against some 15 second Civics. I didn't explain the entire story but we had a local street racing website and the import guys were always the mouthiest so after about a month of us getting called out I was bored enough to pay them a visit one night, that's all.

As for the Supra and RX7, I would gladly accept if challenged. It's not about racing when you know you can win, I prefer being the under dog and hopefully out driving them and if I lose at least I lost to something quick. Remember in street racing there's all kinds of things the driver can do. "Chase is a race" is my big one and is how I've beaten a 900rwhp Supra. Nothing but respect for those cars, one of my favorites but the extra 300hp won't close the gap when I'm at the 60' mark by the time he reacts.

You're completely right, there's always something faster and if you believe otherwise you're going to get disappointed.

Just read your reply and I guess I did take it the wrong way, sorry. To add to your story, many years ago when running S/S and after winning the class, I made my way through the competitors and ended up running a dragster for top eliminator. No way, but I won as the dragster bogged coming off the line. As i crossed the finish line he came by me like I was standing still..........too late. So there is always a chance, slim, but a chance.

Sorry for drifting from the OP subject.

With the crappy turning radius of our cars, it's not that hard to get a little curb rash here and there. Like Sheryl Crow said, "The first cut is the deepest." You eventually get over the curbage after a few more times.

When I was looking for my 3G TLS every car I looked at had curb rash. The last car I looked at, the one I bought had only a 1" nick in one wheel.

Now they're sanded down on all four corners

j/k!

The times I've hit a curb in daylight was just a misjudgement on my part. If it's a light touch the tires I buy protect the rims. So far I've steered clear of curbs with the TLS
