Stupid question...
in md, we have some driveways with a sloping mouth so you think you have a big wide entrance, but the fucking things have a sharp lip that extends all the way around (imagine a sidewalk curb blending into a sloping entrance) and take away about 2-3 feet on each side. This nailed me once entering a strip mall, and i might have nicked them once or twice on my old driveway which you literally had to go straight in/out to avoid getting curbed.
/edit, even found a pic for you. goddamn i hated that driveway

I hit a curb turning into Ms1995hoo's apartment complex once before we got married. The entrance to that complex is gated with separate lanes for residents and visitors and there's a very low island between them. I hit the curb there one day when I misjudged where the island was when I was partly distracted by avoiding a dog or something that ran in front of my car. At some point I ought to get the wheels refinished, but there have been other more important things to deal with first. (The scuffs are on the passenger side, so I don't see them that often anyway.)
When I first started reading the original post, BTW, I said "what's wrong with curbing your wheels?" Normally I've heard that expression used in conjunction with turning your wheels when you're parked on a hill so that the curb will help hold the car if your handbrake fails. (In San Francisco and the District of Columbia you'll get a ticket if you do not curb your wheels correctly.)

Apostle, Well if you lived in a high density city (NYC, Boston, SF etc) you probably wouldn’t have asked the question. In these cities you only get to parallel park and the spot –if you ever get to spot one- would usually give you an inch of clearance in front and behind your car assuming you push the car into the spot sideways. Add to that the fact that these cities often have thin streets so if you don’t push the car as close to the curb as possible you risk having your side mirror’s pieces 50 feet away from the car; of course this is if the garbage or delivery trucks mistakingly miss to slice your side panels.. Hell, I saw ppl park with 2 wheels on the curb and risk a ticket to avoid the above.. A curb rash becomes irrelevent.
