Stuck between changing trany fluid or not

So i bought 08 tl typs S Automatic tranny with 112k miles. Not sure if the fluid was ever changed so i decided to take it to acura to get it changed as the fluid looks light brown when i check the dipstick. Acura called me saying they found metal pieces (shown in the pictures) and they suggest i dont change the fluid as it can cause failure. The tranny doesnt slip but it lags a bit when changing frm P to D or to R if it has been driven for a while. Also when it changes gears i can feel it but it isnt that bad i guess just annoying. Another local shop told me to just drain and fill the tranny that it isnt true that if i drain and fill it will cause failure. Im stuck i dont know what to do. Some one help!

Bad news - You could spend days on the internet and come back with lots of support for both answers from respectable mechanics. Under 70k miles and all seem to agree to change it. Over 70k, and answers begin to differ. Your car has 112 and the fluid looks like it has never been changed. At that level of mileage, one guy said that all the "crud" is needed to fill in the places where the clutch packs have deteriorated. I don't know enough about transmissions to believe him and I could never find any published documents from transmission engineers or trans oil companies with advice.

Good news - You have a 2008 3G with the upgraded transmission (not as likely to break as the 2004-2006). I would just leave it alone. If the shifts get worse, change it then. If the transmission breaks then, you can replace it.

Agree with doing a drain and fill. Change your pressure switches and filter. I would wait one oil change and then do another drain and fill. Rinse repeat for the last drain and fill.

Drain and fill for sure. 3x minimum doing one at each oil change would be my strategy. Your only replacing 3 quarts each time. So your just actually diluting the fluid with fresh fluid each time. a 3x change gets you to a point where you have almost all fresh fluid.
What you do not want to do is hook it up to a machine and have it flushed and filled with all new at one time. that can be a recipe for disaster. Lag may be one of the pressure switches, but I am not ultra familiar with the 07 and up trannys

Change your pressure switches with OEM as well.

Another vote for drain and fill, drain and fill, and drain and fill. That said, the damage has already been done; do not expect that transmission to last another 100,000 miles.

That is a very difficult question to answer; prices vary by region, and even by city. Your best bet would be call around and get quotes.

Depends on whether you:
- buy and use a junk yard trans
- buy and use a already rebuilt trans
- have the shop rebuild the trans

I don't recommend option 1 at all, because you are just putting in another trans with worn parts. You need a shop for all 3 options, unless you have all the appropriate tools and time yourself.

I paid $2200 to rebuild the BAYA on my AV6 with updated valve body along with a new rear main seal in the Chicago suburb area.

Keep in mind, a BAYA AV6 transmission will not bolt into the OP's car.

I am just saying that's my experience and cost of the build, I did not say whether it fits or not. It's a rebuild example not fitment confirmation.

Let's not get technical and start slamming on me again. I understand 08 has a totally different trans.

Wasn't trying to slam you, I just wanted the OP to understand a BAYA isn't an option for him. As for being a totally different transmission, my understanding is they are internally virtually identical, just the engine/transmission mounting points are different. Sorry for the confusion.
