Struggling w/ these PESKY RX-8s

You guys all remember that thread that asked what sort of cars picked on you the most? Well for me here in Seattle/Mukilteo, it's the RX-8. I always have a hard time with those little things; a buddy of mine has a black 2004 RX-8 and I seem to pull on him every time, but just today I played around with some guy in a dark silver one and BOY did I have a hard time keeping up. Looked pretty stock to me, but in second we stayed even till about my shift into third, in which he started to pull just by a little bit (never saw the outcome; we ended up slowing down for traffic pretty far out). He seemed like a better driver from the get go; he was really pushin' and he spun out a bit in between each shift. BLAH! I need that J-pipe I guess...anyone else have word on these little toy cars?

btw, i seafoamed this weekend and BOY did my car pick up quickly; felt like it anyways, even thought we stayed pretty darn even...

your buddies could be an automatic, because they are alot slower than the 6 speeds, ive had the same experiance as you haha. ive driven my ex girlfriends auto RX and those things i think are slow, and ive come across a 6 speed when we were goin about 50, and i pulled 50-70, then in third he pulled me pretty good, damnit

My friend have an 06 RX8, those thing are tqr less, i used to kill him everytime with my 07 S2000 which also needs some more tqr. I cant imagine my TL-S losing to my friend's RX8 though. RX8 weights around 3000 pound, TL has more than 100+ tqr on the RX8. btw did i say their gas consumption sucks xD

Coming from someone who works at a Mazda dealer Rx8's are dog slow! Off the line they are incredibly slow but rolling they can be quick at times especially when you're talking about a car your supposed to redline at 9K. My service advisor has one with Mazda speed CAI, exhaust, greddy pullies, nology wires, and I think 2 chips and he only dynoed at 180 to the wheels and like 132 tq. I'm highly dissappointed you guys are struggling with these things.

i have also heard that the hp from the RX8 is overrated, meaning they actually doesnt get 232 hp from the crank so your service advisor might be getting his right # with those mods.

Feel FREE to THROW OUT other "struggles"

I'm actually an automatic, and both the black rx-8 and the silver one I mentioned previously were six speeds, no doubt. Nevertheless, I still can't seem to pull HARD. I hate to mention this, but a while back (way back when) I took another white (slightly modded) rx-8 (shame on m ) on the freeway and he started pulling pretty darn well past 120; I had one passenger - could be the cause eh well...we'll see after I get my j-pipe

MAN, I HATE THOSE SUPERCHARGED/TURBOCHARGED SCIONS TOO!

Others: please feel free to throw out your own "struggles"...!!!

From an old rotorhead and racer-
the rx cars are easily modded with very stealthy things.... like twin turbos
Aint NO way you can play with one of ~those~ and stand a chance!

His is also an 04' though which is when they supposedly had 6 more horsepower than the newer ones.

Not the case....they changed to SAE HP ratings in 2005 or something like that. They are the exact same setup in fact.

hey erick3 was it this rx8?

I used to go to school with the guy that owns it. I dont know of any mods that he might have. I guess he is lowered and got some neons? (the stickers) I heard its a 6 speed. He lives in Mukilteo or Everett, so he rolls around the same places you do.

HAHAHAHAHA oooh boy! freaking take em'! as long as he's stock, you'll be pretty even...make sure you start in second and let the car shift itself down to first; assuming that you're an automatic...seems to be the only way i can jump ahead...

nah, wasn't him; this guy seemed completely stock, plus his car was a darker gray color. so i'm guessing overall, modded with just exhaust and maybe an intake, these "pesky" toys would pull?...??? not too many of those around, but just asking...

i might lose to SKY?! (guy that talks TRASH, blah blah blah his rx-8 > my tl...he just got exhaust and intake, both by mazdaspeed)

Vs'd an '06'ish WRX wagon this weekend, was pretty even although his damn AWD was a challenge off the line. He also pulled a little bit after we passed the 105mph mark on SR-167...

Damn WRX's and STi's around here are always pulling up to me on the line like they are the shiz.

i'd call that driver error; i've killed my buddy's black rx-8 over and over again, but like i mentioned in the post, some rx-8 drivers can REALLY drive...and they pull........
