Found 2004 TL Auto transmission gears down to second gear very abruptly while traveling down hills at about 30MPH... Dealer seems to state this is normal. Hard to believe considering all the other gears are very unnoticed. What could be causing this?? Thanks...

 

it uses the tranny to control a decent I heard something abut the TL having this, it does it intentionally to keep you at a controlled speed. If you really dont like it put it in SS during declines.

 

Ok, I just like to clarify your question, you meant your 04TL downshift automatically while driving downhills, right? And, you felt it's rough and weird?

Or you meant you try to downshift from 3 to 2 by yourself, and you felt it's rough...?

 

Its called the Grade Logic feature. It's a feature of the TL tranny when going up/down hill of certain elevations. Normal.
