stoopid idea...let's build our own tl

i was just looking at some parts lists for the tl on the sunnyside acura website that shows the entire car assembly manual and prices. i wonder what just the dollar cost (not including labor) would be if we just bought all of the pieces and put the car together like a kit? i wonder if we would save a couple grand or so

I would guess that would cost you about $80,000

and I don't think you can buy a VIN number, so I don't know how you would register it.

No money would be saved. That's why stealing cars and chopping them into parts is so popular. I read somewhere that an Accord built out of parts would cost $60,000 not including labor.

If you do it, please take a picture of the person at DMV when you tell them you have no VIN because the car was built from parts in your back yard!

Building a car from nothing but parts would run you roughly 200% to 250% of the sticker price (I read this some years ago, so it might be even more now).

If you're going to build a car from parts it might as well be something like a super 7, or ultima GTR.

Weld a couple rods on the bottom and you would have a pretty cool rickshaw.

In the late- or mid-80's, some insurance or auto manufacturing group determined, while analyzing car theft, that it would cost $32,000 or $35,000 in parts to build a Buick (I think it was a two-door Regal coupe based on the Chevy Monte Carlo) that cost about $8500 at the time.
BMW just built a new '70's 2002 earlier this year and spent over $90,000 to do it, but I don't know if that included labor or was just the parts prices.
Just look at how expensive and complicated the airbag/SRS systems are for the TL-- if I'm building any car, it'll be a simple kit car based on a VW chassis or a Cobra replica.
