SSM Owners!

Just trying to get an idea how prevalent the bumper discoloration problem is on the SSM cars.

And if you are so inclined, please include any actions you've taken to correct the problem or if you just plan on living with it.

I got mine a week ago. Love the car, but that is the only thing that drives me nuts is how bad the paint on the bumpers doesn't match the body of the car. Its like 3 shades darker on the bumper. UGH!

Everyone has this problem. If you don't think you do, go outside and look at your bumper, you'll see. Its because all the plastics are made in one factory, and added to the car at another. Impossible to get a perfect match unless they just did it all in one place (they should).

My sideview mirrors, in a very, very, certain sunlight, almost look champagne colored. Very weird.

I agree, the lighting does make a difference. Kind of a shadow effect. (I assume we are talking about the rear bumper.) But if you get it outside and get the light on it equally, I can't see any difference in mine.

I noticed the difference at the showroom the day I picked up the car about 3 weeks ago. The rear bumper seems to be worse than the front.

I initially thought the front wasn't as bad but then came to the conclusion that it is but isn't as noticeable because there is much less area where the front mates to the fender compared to the rear and the 1/4 panel.

I've had my car for 8 1/2 months and I don't notice a color difference.

I have yet to see bumpers of ANY car manufacturer that match perfectly with the body. I've been told by body shops that you'll never get a 100% match due to the "flex paint" that is necessary for the plastic bumpers.

Well consider this:

I have SSM, and the bumpers are more "yellow" than the sheetmetal... and I also have the bodykit... which is yet another shade.. but not a yellow shade... so I have three different tones of SSM on my car...
