SS Shift delay
SS Shift delay
Hey guys, I just bought a 04 WDP/Parchment TL w/ navi. I currently own a 99 TL also. First thing I notice when I used SS was that there was a 1 sec delay when shifting in SS. Is this normal? My 99 TL shifts almost instantenous. Here are some pics, took them as soon as I got home.

Our SS does have a lag when you shift. It's bad... this makes it almost useless in many occassions.
Acura only mentions that DBW (drive by wire) system does enhance faster and smoother shifting. In D mode, upshifts from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd are more than 0.3 second quicker. (I guess Acura means 3G vs 2G)
In SS mode, downshifts are also 0.3 second quicker.
So, my Q is: 04TL and 99TL, which one does have the better/quicker/faster downshifts in SS mode?

The SS mode scared me.........I was like...........is the trans crapping out......kinda feel better that it's consider normal.....but pissed that SS is useless for shifting. Kinda wished I waited for the 6MT, but I didn't have patients. I love the navi also and the voice command is fun to play with.
Welcome to the other side of the forum, hzm! Just for the record, I owned a 2002 TL (e.g. 5AT rather than the 4AT of the 1999 TL) and the SS in the new TL has about the same delay as the old 5AT despite Acura's claim. I can't even measure 1/3 second's difference. This, and the continuing automatic 1-2 shift, make the SS useless to me except in rush-hour traffic, when I use it for engine braking.

I think some of it is engineered in on order to protect the tranny. It's interesting to note that some of the people who've had their tranny recalled have commented on the car feeling much quicker.
