SS mode in tl base.

Okay while im driving can i just switch D to M(SS) mode. Does it mess up the transmission like reving in N and the changing it to D. Also the car lacks alot of torque. When i floor the car it's slow compared to my 05 base G6, witch has 211hp and 186trq. Now is that normal. Does trq make you car launch faster?

Yeah, while you're driving you can switch to SS mode, won't hurt the tranny....the car does lack in the torque department.

torque is the feeling of accelleration that you get- different rims and tires -total car weight- all affect the feeling of the car

You can slip it onto SS mode anytime you want at any speed - while in forward motion, or stopped and ready to go forward-
it will automatically go into the gear it was using- and display that gear number on the dash- can go back to normal D5 anytime as well. Its all just an electronic switch under the shifter- sends an impulse to the computer which checks for limits and allows the shift.
Notice how it wont let you downshift above set speed in each gear-
wont let itself overrev by allowing your requested downshift
Very smart cars!

In case you dont have the owner manual here is the free download- click year then mdel
All the operations- shift speed limits up and down, and traction control tips are there!

we just got to put this to rest now

J32 used in the TL is NOT lacking in torque compared to other motors of similar size

Acura 3.2L makes 238
hyundai 3.3L makes 229
fords' 3.5L makes 249
GM 3.9L makes 240

Acura's 3.5L OWNS the above engines in the torque department at 256lbs........ for the TL type S and 271 in the RL

some of you guys just love talking out of your rear ends don't you?

what do you expect? 3600+ lbs of car to pull and asking a V6 to do it.......

Very true. Torque is very abundant in my TL Diet car. I don't even care if the computer refuses to do a deep downshift when I go WOT. Without the weight, the TL pulls just as hard even without the deep downshift.

Plus after shedding 500 lbs, I can now say with 100% confidence that I have no "4th gear wall" in the slightest.

Probably not. But, the good news, AFAIK, it hasn't gotten any more expensive. You can keep an eye on the Black Market, Craigs List and/or Ebay for a used one; they come up from time-to-time and that'll save some $$.

Either way (new or used) it's cheaper than a G37.

Honestly though, reading some of your posts, I get the impression that you thought you were buying a perfomance sedan with some daily driver character. In reality, the TL/TL-S is a daily driver sedan with some performance character (*especially* the 5AT).

Maybe you got the wrong car to fill your needs and desires - .

Never trust a butt dyno-- the throttle pedal pressure, intake/engine/exhause noise and initial gearing may make the G6 "feel" faster, but your TL should leave it lying on the side of the road waiting to die from 30+ mph- there's about 2 seconds difference in 0-60 and quarter mile times between the two cars.

Also, the TL has an ECU which adapts the trans/engine to our driving style, so it may have adapted to a slower, smoother driving style if you aren't driving it like you stole it. You can always clear the memory or "reflash" to stock to see if that makes the TL feel faster (but the car will adapt again within 100 miles, IIRC).

well at least we get better MPG than the EPA says, unlike the G35... Also remember, honda uses SOHC motors, not DOHC, when honda did use DOHC motors, they got 290HP and 224 TQ out of a 3.2 liter motor.... If that motor had been tuned for more tq, and had a higher compression ratio, 280HP and 260 TQ could have been forseeable

I am sorry but 270HP < 286 or 300HP and 260tq is still less than acura's RL 3.5L putting out 271 and acura's 3.5L used in the TLS is 4 shy of nissan's 260.

my point is Acura torque is in line with everyone elses and to state that the car is lacking is just plain wrong.........

you are only going to get so much torque out of a 3.5L and I would be suprised if you can get much more........acura did their homework and not only are the tq numbers good, they are available from about 3K onward........
