Engine Flush/ Fuel Injection Cleaning
Engine Flush/ Fuel Injection Cleaning
Saturday I went to change my oil and the guy at the shop also told me that I should Flush my engine and have my Fuel Injection System cleaned. Now i agreed to Fuel Injection System cleaning, but did not have enough cash on me to pay for the engine. When I did a little bit of a research about all of this stuff a lot of people do not agree with engine flush just because there is a good chance of distroying your engine and/or transmission and also if you do not properly clean Injection system it could cause some problems so my questions is How often do you have to clean Fuel injection system and engine if you even have to clean the engine.
Was it a dumb mistake on my part doing the Injection system before doing the research and also how often do you have to do this?
Thank you in advance

How much did you pay for the fuel system cleaning? probably all they did was pour something in the gas tank, I doubt they actually took the injectors out and actually cleaned them (that would have been bookoo $$$). You could have done this yourself for 7 bucks with a can of seafoam on a third of a tank of gas. Don't do the coolant flush, I believe Acura recommends against that. you can change your coolant rather easily if you're handy.
People ususally advise against the engine flush because with an abundant amount of miles on an engine that hasnt been flushed in a while, there is a high chance of breaking loose sludge/caked on oil from your galleries and/or pan. A big chunk that breaks free can get lodge up in a weird way impeding oil flow, and/or get caught up on the pump, making it work harder. And because it is a 'big" piece, it may never exit the pan cuz the drain hole is too small. With regular oil changes, you should be just fine and dandy!
FYI, many motor flush bottles direct the user saying "if you are at 50K miles, do not flush motor" or something to that effect. The amsoil one does.
The fuel system cleaner? If you are using a high grade of gas, you usually are doing some sort of cleaning becuase the fuel is charged with cleaning additives. Will it be thorough? Probably not....Use seafoam.. Many have had good luck with that stuff on this board. I started my car off on Chevron Techron treatment from day one (usually dump in a 20oz bottla every 2000 miles).. All Techron is is that fuel additive found in Chevron Gasoline, but in a higher concentration.
60 bucks? Ehh, i wouldnt call it a massive ripoff, but still a rip off if all he did was dump a bottle of sumthing that costs no more than 4 bucks.

Thanks for all the advice the only thing that scared me really is that I've been reading a lot about this stuff and a lot of people get screwed, because the mechanics sometimes do not attach all the wires properly and you can start getting worse mileage or your O2 gage breaks or something like thats the only thing I was concerned about.
