The TL platform will have to move to SH-AWD. I'd imagine the TL's pricing will move north closer to $37,000 for the base model. If the past is any indication, Honda will be very closed lipped about the TL and I bet it won't be until the summer of 2008 that we will see any previews of what the car will look like.

Acura is moving to AWD from FWD like Audi did in the 80s...

Everything else is going sh-awd. I think they are going to standardize on that platform. I mean comon, whats one of the main reasons for people going with the G's? rwd.

i agree- imho Acura will at least offer an AWD option for the TL. I really wish/hope that they use some of that S2000 technology and take the entry level class seriously and put RWD in it. I also hope they keep the manual tranny option. Would like to see over 300hp and alot more "luxury" features.

If they're able to make up for it in the gas mileage, I think they should do it. These cars really pride themselves in the gas mileage, so if AWD takes away from that, I wouldn't do it.

Talking

rl has awd heavier and still gets decent gas milage.... rwd i dont think that will ever happen with the tl. if anything it will be the awd

the things im for in the next tl is

- push start
- smart key fob like rl
- updated navi system
- rain sensing wipers
- and as an option awd
- some more goodies to surprise us

All of that, except I wanna drive! I love driving this car! This car seemingly does 80 minimum! Everytime when I am on the hwy...the damn thing stays at 80 or above! Freakin' ticket today proves it! (tho he did drop it to 64/55 for me).

SH-AWD will become standard on all the acuras, look at what they did on the RDX and MDX, put SH-AWD on both even though the RDX is smaller, I think they thought about it taking a chunk out of MDX sales.

Acura will never put AWD in the TL, unless they discontinue the RL... which is a possibility given it's slumped sales.
I'm actually more excited to see the 3rd gen RL.

Awd, will be on the next gen tl. You will have to have it if the tl is going to have more hp, and it will. They will do rwd.

i talked to my salesman a while and he is the one who brought up the remodeling in 2009. he said from what he heard they are putting in awd and at least 300 hp. I think they have to put AWD on it all the other cars in its class have it A4, 3 series, Lexus and infinti. I hope they make a coupe that is awd. Then i think when they redo the RL they are going to put a V8 in it to compete with the bigger benz and bmws.

There is a video on the RL forum that was put out by Honda that showcases SH-AWD. In that video you can plainly see the car isn't an RL but actually a current gen Honda Accord. So there is an Accord test mule out there with SH-AWD.

So that tells me that the current TL platform can support SH-AWD if Honda wanted to provide it. It seems like a no-brainer that the next-gen TL would have it.

As for differentiating the TL and the RL... There are confirmed rumors that a V8 will be introduced in the near future. My guess is that the next gen RL will get that engine along with other upgrades to seperate it from the TL.

The RL is dooing very poorly. The dealer I spoke to said he thinks the RL is doing good is because it looks like a big accord. I have to agree, especially from the side. I don't think AWD TL could hurt RL sales. Two very different cars.

I don't think that Acura will be worried about that. BMW's bread and butter is the 3 series that is where a lot of the R & D goes into with all the motor options, coupes and so forth. The TL is also Acura's bread and butter. They have recently started to focus more on the SUV segments but I would be surprised it the TL doesn't have AWD for the next generation.

i think the next series should be

tl - awd and 300+
rl- awd v8 (i dont think they will do this since honda b/c they dont have a v8 for a car i think)

this at least will give the two cars a big difference and would be worth the extra money...the problem with the rl is for the extra 10-15 g's its not worth it compared to the tl for dollar to dollar comparision my opionion

I test drove an RL, and it didn't seem any more roomy than the TL. I definately didn't feel the RL was worth the extra mony.

TL- RWD (with SH-AWD option for those in the snow belt), 350+hp, I think Honda/Acura has to suck it up and develop a RWD platform to stay competitive with IS, G, 3-series, and even crappy cars from Detroit come with RWD these days
RL - RWD, SH-AWD optional, V8 with loads more torque and slightly more hp than TL, lots of tech gadgets
CL - RWD coupe with a 500 hp twin turbo version of the V8 in the RL.

Oh, how about a TL coupe that smaller than the sedan, RWD with 350 hp? That would cool.

Honda has a V8 that they are working on currently according to vtec.net. The next generation RL is rumored to have a V8.

I'm guessing the '09 TL will have SH-AWD and the 3.7L SOHC V6 from the MDX....300-315hp and 275-290 lb*ft of torque.

the new RL will have a V8 with its SH-AWD.

I'm also guessing the '08 TSX will have the 2.3L Turbo and SH-AWD

Talk to a few former TL owners from this forum who made the jump (Neuronbob, Miike_TX, among others).

Not meant to be a comparison as the TL is a nice car and has done very well.

The RL is my 3rd Acura (Vigor & TL)

Build quality (I have no squeaks, rattles or buzzing)
Better leather
SH-AWD is pretty cool
Keyless entry and go (I have so gotten used to this)
NavTraffic (although the TL-S now has it)
It just feels solid

True that it doesn't have much more interior space as the TL, and it could use a little more torque, but it's plenty quick. I paid $43K for mine last May and I don't regret it for one minute. I love it.

I don't know what engine or equipment Acura will throw in for the 09 TL but I know for sure that the exterior and interior of the TL will look swweeet ,thats why most of us bought this car. TL designer crew are one heck of a crew.

IMHO don't be suprise if they going FWD with Option SH-AWD and maybe 2012 Types-S with SH-AWD with Turbo.

if the RL only cost you 43k then its worth it for the extra 5-10gs but i am mostly saying for the sticker price comparision b/w the tl and rl i would rather go with the tl.........43k for an RL with navi is a good deal i would be gett an RL for that much but to compare sticker prices 37k for the TL and around 53K i would go TL

Not trying to distract from this thread, but did anyone else watch the most recent Motorweek episode that featured the Eaton/GM differential? Of course it's for the truck division, but it's a new automatic, NOT limited slip type. They tested it on varied surfaces and the seem to work as well as their four wheel drive models. These pickups were all rear wheel drive types. When I saw this I had to think this technology would be great on a TL, providing better traction, less torque steer etc.
Here's hoping those Acura engineers were paying attention.

I dont think that Acura is going to produce a rwd TL at all. Rwd is kinda dated especially in a brand that is based on having the best technology.

I sure do know one thing, the RDX flopped and the MDX is selling before it hits the ground anywhere.

Im hoping for a V8 RL a v10 NSX and a 350hp 3.7 TL with SH-AWD.
