A-spec kit Underbody Installation do it yourself or send it to a body shop???

i am hoping to get peoples 2 cents on this topic. For people who installed their a-spec underbody kit themselves please provide tools needed, how many hours it took and any regrets. and people who sent their car to a body shop to get it installed please provide cost of installation, how much ( very important ) , and was it worth it. Thanks in advance for all the input.

I think you should definatly do it yourself, it's not too complicated. I did mine myself and it was in the rain while I was doing it too, anyways it took me about 3-4 hour.

Here are the tools that you'll be needing ( That's all the one I can think of right now)

Phillips screwdriver
flat head screwdriver
10mm wrench
drill
3mm 6mm 10mm drill bit

I just bought a kit and I'm doing neither. My dealer is charging $275 for installation, and I think it's worth it to have someone with the right tools, who's done this before, and is willing to take some responsibility if there's an installation problem do the install.

Definitly do it yourself. Unlike 04teinTL, my friend and I are not the handiest of people. It took the both of us about approximately 5 hrs to complete the install of the full bodykit (including breaks and whatnot). Keep in mind, neither of us had ever installed any sort of bodykit before. It really isn't that bad once you get into it.

Do it yourself, it's easy.

First time was around 2.5 hours. I guarantee I could do it again in well under 2 hours.

There are no "right tools" to install it. If you can turn a screw driver and drill a hole on the back of the bumper cover on a spot that is marked with a big X, you can install it.

If people are paying $275 to get this kit installed, it's no wonder why dealer owners are millionaires....

ABOUT 3 HOURS IS RIGHT. DID IT IN MY DRIVEWAY. NOTHING SPECIAL AS FAR AS TOOLS. BEST PART IS, WHEN YOU ARE DONE YOU HAVE THE SATISFACTION OF KNOWING YOU DID IT YOURSELF AND IT WAS DONE RIGHT.

Im not the handyist person so I found out from a couple of acura dealers and they were telling me installation would cost:

Ed napelton- $400
woodfield-$346.50
libertyville- $300

So I might take it to a bodyshop or just end up going to the acura dealers.

The reason I dont want to do it myself is I dont want to mess anything up when drilling.

Bring it to Cincinnati, I'll do it for $250

You seriously can't screw it up. When you take the bumper cover off, the back side is marked with a big X where the holes get drilled...

when you guys drill for the kit, is it in locations on the bumper that would be noticeable when removed?

I was just wondering if I ever wanted to remove it, would there be holes seen?

any 3M tape holding it? or all brackets?

anyone have instructions or pictures during the install?

Installation instructions from the garage :

https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...60&postcount=1

Look under Rear Under Spoiler, Front Under Spoiler, and Side Under Spoiler

Most have used 3M double sided tape in conjunction to the brackets for additional support.

Yep, no going back without replacing the rear bumper cover...

I went to the dealer yesturday to get an oil change and saw a normal tl with the a-spec kit on. As I got closer, it like a pretty bad installation of the front bumper. The sides where the front lip meets the fender wall was lower and was showing where the front bumper meets the fender wall. Im pretty sure it dosent look like that. It was the same thing with the rear bumper.

All-in-all, I think they put on the lip to low.

That is why I will always do stuff like this myself. No one else is going to care for your baby like you. Chances are, the guy that installed this was in a hurry to get it done before lunch / quitting time or just hates his job because Joe next to him makes $1.00 more an hour so he doesn't take pride in his work.

I guarantee the techs at the dealer don't wear gloves to keep from smudging up the paint, or put a blanket down on the garage floor to keep the underside of the bumper from getting scraped up on the floor.... it always pays to do it yourself. In this case, more ways than one.

I recently talked to a guy who took his truck into the Toyota dealer to get an oil change and the tech didn't tighten up the drain plug. By the time he got 5 miles down the road, the oil had drained out and the engine locked up in his brand new truck (this was the first oil change). After months of back and forth between his lawyer and theirs, the dealer is agreeing to REBUILD the engine and not replace it. This is a brand new truck.... I'd be HOT!

Im also missing the template A and B. They didnt come with the kit. I got the kit from the group buy at hondacuraworld.com, so I e-mailed the guy and hopefully he will send them to me soon.
