Speaking of AC - its cold immediately

Is it just me or does the AC seem to get cold VERY quickly.

As in under a minute.

Sometimes I put it on LO just to keep cool with the windows/roof open in the southern sun - 90+.

Yes, noticed the same thing -- it's almost an instant-on. Fantastic.

My GF loves to roll the windows down. I, on the other hand, insist on an air tight cabin to preserve aerodynamic integrity and not lose pieces of the heat shield during re-entry. She rolls her window down immediately when she gets in, because it's hot for about 1 second. Once the AC kicks on, I roll it back up.

In no time, she's bumping the temp up on her side. 68/72 is about the norm.

U ought to turn the mains button on your side off so she can't - she will be over there trying to figure it out, and by the time she squeeks at you, you will have subtly switched the Mains back on - if u are smart you will look compassionately concerned, but then say, try it again, and when it works, your aura of power as a male will be escalated. We have so little of our dominion left to preserve - I say we draw the line in the TL, here and now!

It does get cold quite fast. I noticed that when I was in Tucson today. It was over 100 degrees and the a/c got cold very quicly even after being in the sun for the length of Spiderman 2.

*cough*choke*snicker* "aura of power as a male" *snort*wheeze*guffaw* "dominion"...

Thanks, RR, haven't laughed so hard for ages. Anyone trying that on me would get a slapping! I've been known to make guys walk for saying stuff like that I pulled over and refused to drive them back to work!

Seriously, tho... good to hear the AC's that effective. It was 110 when I got out of work today. Not helped by the stupid landscapers who cut back my favorite shade tree yesterday!

A man works from sun to sun, but a woman's work is never done.

Has anyone noticed that the car only gets cool when the engine is on. When I run the AC on the battery it does not get cool at all.

that's because all cars operate their compressor (makes air cold) off the motor.

Quick Cooling Method

YES - the A/C works really well. The Japanese understand the need for this much better than other makers.

To cool the car the quickest - As you are approaching your car, hit your unlock button twice and hold it - all the windows will roll down, letting out all the super-heated air for a few seconds before you get in, then start the engine and drive away. Drive for 10-20 seonds with the windows DOWN and A/C ON, then put them up. The car will cool off instantly.

Reason? Even if it is 110 outside, it is much cooler than the inside of the car! By cooling the car down to the outside temp, you have given the A/C a 20-30 degree head start.

mancur - maybe your GF has the right idea?

I do the auto-window-rolldown thing with my QX4 right now (some of the folks I work with had never seen a car do that). But that plood steering wheel's a pain!!! It was hotter today - so hot, you can feel your eyes drying out walking across the parking lot. Still, another month and it'll be back into the 90s - maybe!

I get cold very quickly, so I'm looking forward to the twin-zone climate control. Can't take it much below 72. Vegas has made me a temperature wimp!

Oh, and Xpditor, I got three words for ya...

South... Beach... Diet...!

Mine gets cold in seconds.

I thought you had to compress the Freon (or coolant, whatever) and then let it expand to get the cooling action. That should take longer than 2 seconds. Are there any HVAC engineers out there who can explain whats going on?
