well based on your story, and knowing that yesterday was a rainlyish cool chilly day having all your windows open was pretty suspisious, i was in manhattan yesterday and most people have had their windows up, it was not a hot summer day. you had them down weather was chilly and it tipped off a smart cop that is doing his job. you should of showed him your proff that you are allowwed to have the tints why didnt you have it?

Wow! That was quick.

Well, I guess you will have to go the court route. Since the ticket is in a different state, one of a few things will probably happen.

1) The Judge will take mercy on your disability and throw the ticket out.
2) The Judge will tell you the DMV permit for the tint does not apply since it is for a different state and you will have to follow the law in his state.
3) The Judge will confiscate your tint permit if he is having a bad day just give you a hard time. (not likely).
4) You call the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Association) and they represent you claiming Police discrimination against disabled people and make this a big deal and we get to see you on TV talking about it. (not likely again).

Let us know how it goes.

If the nypd cant even see through your car in TS at night with all your window's down and sun roof opened, then it should be obvious why they pulled you over. your tints including you back window must be really dark. TS at night is like day time anywhere else.

Well there you go. No offense, but if I was a cop and I rolled up behind a car with every window tinted, I'd run the plates. And if a muslim name came up, you'd be damn sure that I'd pull them over. If you think that if an Arab dude with a backpack gets on the PATH and nobody even gives him a second look, you're crazy. It's NYC man, we've had enough of that bs. You live right there, you know that things have changed around here forever.

Dude, it didn't matter that your windows were down when he pulled you over. Your whole windshield is tinted!!! lol But seriously, he shoudn't have given you a ticket though.

From what I've gathered from your responses, you got the ticket for too dark of tint, not having the front windows and windshield tinted. Your doctors note doesn't allow you to tint your car with illegal tint, it allows you to tint the windows you normally can't tint with legal tint. On this matter, you aren't going to win in court.

The question I have is how can a NY cop give a NJ resident a ticket for a non-moving violation? Is there some sort of partnership between the two states where one is in essence the other?

I was thinking the thing before, but of course it was after my post... Doh!!

NY & NJ both have partnerships with each other and about 40+ other states. Shit, I think that Canadian tix from Ontario also transfer to NY licences. I'm sure that other states have same deal.

OT....but keep in mind....when driving through Kentucky ever.....THEY ARE NOT A FRIENDLY STATE. If you are from out of state....for the most part....its all a matter of money. Pay the ticket....its gone....never reported to your home state. (Indiana in my case)

If you have a permit from the DMV, then they can't say s**t to you! I would fax a copy of that permit to the prosecuting attorney at the court house and talk it over with him....
