Someone Just Backed Into Me!

Was at the store, came out, and there it was. Appears it must have been a pickup. Small dent in trunk, right under the emblem, and the 'bumper' directly under the trunk is crushed in a bit (don't know how to describe it, but it's folded up a bit so you can see it rise in the middle). Interesting that little/no paint was taken off, just a minor scrape. I'm so upset as this is the first 'event' for this car--'07 TL-S.

Any idea how much that might run to fix it? I do have comprehensive insurance. Also, have heard of people having trouble getting those rear bumper colors to match when replaced. Is that common for the CBP, too?

I just want to cry.

I live in Idaho, only one dealership. Had a favorite repair shop for the Bimmer, not sure about Acura or if I should take it to the dealer for their recommendations. Can't believe what I'm hearing, that it may NOT cost thousands? Sorry, no photos--camera pooped out on me. Actually, the dent in the trunk is below the license plate. That seems to be some sort of metal so might be punched out, but the lower bumper seems to be a sort of hard plastic or fiberglass--they can really punch those out without having to replace? Many thx for all those who responded. Just ticked off.

i wouldnt bring my banged up car to my dealership. they can make notes of the damage and stuff. id just call up, speak to the service manager and ask for a recommendation of a body shop

plus you can PDR bumpers, probably the most popular fix. aslong as the paint isnt chipped your fine

Thanks, Greco. What is PDR? (Sorry if it's obvious.) Also, don't most businesses now have cameras where they can see what happened in the lot? Maybe even see the license plate? Or is this wishful thinking and I should just move on?

Worse things have happened to people, so I don't want to belabor this...just trying to get my ducks in a row befoe I call the ins. co.--all lines were endlessly busy tonight.

Thanks, Greco.

There is a chip on the bumper, so I may just have it painted if it can't be easily covered. Anyone know if CBP color is easy to match? Seems I heard the WDP sometimes doesn't match well.

If it's s really small scrape, maybe you can get away with a touch-up pen.

IMO it's worth it to at least go back and check with security at the store and see if they have tapes that they'll let you see. Hopefully they'll be nice.

Good luck with everything.

Just a follow-up for those who offered advice.

Estimate turned out to be ~$1200 because they think punching out the dent in the trunk will cause paint damage. Will have to replace bumper and paint bumper and trunk. (Lid rear deck, spoiler, rear bumper, emblems, etc.) $250 collision deductible.

Insurance company & garage both said they're seeing increases in hit & run--figuring it's due to the economy and people are going without insurance, so they just take off. (Very scary indeed to go without liability insurance--crazy, crazy and so financially risky.) If people can't afford insurance, they should just park it and take public transportation.
