Some advice from the experts
Some advice from the experts
I know you guys are really into your diys here and I haven't seen one for painting a front grille (please correct me if I'm wrong). So anyways I already ordered my NBP paint, primer, and clear coat from paintscratch, and the plan is to sand the grille down so that the primer will stick and simply paint from there. Do you guys have any advice as to how many coats of each paint I should put on or if there is any other prep-work I should look into?
I used professional paint on mine, and recommend using pro paint.
For spray paint I would do about 3 coats of color or until you have full coverage, then 3 coats of clear. Spray paint will not be as durable as pro paint, but if done right it should look ok. Many people use body shops so the color/finish and durability is similar to the body panels. It's a good idea to use a clear vinyl film after the paint has fully cured to help prevent chips and debris pits on the finish. Also, adhesion promoter is a good idea, if it is compatible with the paint you are using. Good prep work is key.
