Sold car :( looking for some advice on new TL-S

hello,

after much debate, i finally sold Maurice today lol
got a decent deal on the trade in, but i'm having a hard time bargaining the new tl-s down a bit. it's used, certified and priced at $32,900. it's white with all the goodies. straight up, i was told that the madam who traded the car in received $27,000. after certification fees and what not, it came down to $29,750. i know for a fact that the market value has gone up, but honestly, 30 seems pretty damn high...am i wrong? i checked kbb, and the numbers were right on. HELP? oh and it's 07. back from a year ago, they gave me $3,000 more on the trade in (a huge plus for me, considering i put on 15,000 more miles).

What's the mileage?

I truly think it's fair to pay an Acura dealership KBB retail. Car sales aren't what they used to be.

I recently bought a used Jeep Wrangler for a beat-around car, and the dealership was asking almost $18K. I brought in the KBB "Retail Value" printout showing $14,200, and said I wouldn't pay any more than that. They took it almost immediately.

Mileage would help. Even if it has 5k miles 33k is way too much. And never believe a word they tell you. It doesn't matter what they purchased the car for. All that matters is what it is worth and/or what others are buying the car for. Assuming the car has 18k miles, it is probably worth $29,000 at most.

For referance, I bought my 07 TL-S for 24,900, not CPO with 13,998 miles. They had it listed for 28,000.

Rule of thumb: demand 10% off the asking price. And walk away if you are not satisfied. Unless you are satisfied paying 33k for a used TL-S. That car is more than 10% overpriced however.

Wow I can't believe you sold your car! I loved everything about it cause that's what I wanted my car to look like. Glad you're staying in the TL family still. And about the TL-S, that's a high price for that much mileage. I just recently saw a WDP-S with 14000 for about the same price, I think it was an 07.

ugh man! that's what i was afraid of. the real selling point for me are the following: they certified it (cost the extra 2 grand) and they gave me 3 grand MORE for my trade in (due to market).

whatcha think?!?!

Man! thats great news, about u getting an S, your pic where the car is parked on the side of the street, from the front passenger of "Maurice" is one of my favorite all time pics on this site. Post pics as soon as you can, I am sure you will, also, if you dont mind, post some of the interior. Always curious how our "leather" is holding up. Congrats man

Car is way over priced. I paid $33,200 for a brand new 2008 TL-S in July 2008.

Sadly, it seems like dealers nationwide are charging ass raping prices on the Type S for some reason. I'd say the car is probably worth $28k, and don't believe a word they say about what they paid for it.

I still think that's a little much for an almost 3 year old TL-S with that much mileage. Try talking them down more, even though that's about a little below average for a car that age. I guess if the extra 3 grand you got from your car can make up for the extra cost the car is worth, you should go for it. TL-S's are in high demand and if you really like it, I say go for it. Just for you to get an idea, I bought an 04 with 42000 in july '08 for $20000 CPO. Good luck and post pics after you pick it up with the A-specs!

You are getting 3k more out of your trade-in. Trading in cars is always about the difference in price not what's on the paper (for individuals). i say you are getting a fair deal. When I bought mine they gave me about 1.5 higher than expected on my trade in, so the new car I got was about that much higher as well. If you want to do everybody else good, cut 3k in your trade in and 3k on the type-S. Higher trade in values brings up the overall market price.

It was at a toyota dealer. I was suspicious myself. The carfax was clean and the bumpers are factory, so that was reassurance that it wasnt in an accident. Plus im cold as ice when it comes to bargaining.

Mother:sfj :sodf:dsfucwelkrjjkkkerr!!!!!

FU$% my life. They cheated me and lied, over and over again. I found out from another dealer that the cpo process is NOT 2 grand, and the price for the damn car was WAY high. I walked out. The car was damaged beyond believe, with rust and all. Picture this: take a knife and pretend you're cutting bread = the fender and lower front bumper. i'm PISSED.

We'll see tomorrow...
I've been checking out various other forums...people just don't have any taste! Acurazine, wthell have you done to me...

I'm brand new to the Acura ownership and Acurazine. Great forum and great members, from what I can tell.

I bought a manual WDP 07 TLS with 33K miles for $25K from an Acura dealership. Originally listed for $28K. Pretty happy with the price, considering I would not settle for an automatic, wanted low miles for the warranty, and had WDP as my first color choice. CarMax, for example, will give you $25K for a TLS in similar condition and sell them for $28K+, so you know you're doing well when you get CarMax trade-in pricing.

As for CPO, not quite sure it is worth it when you have a good amount of miles left under the original factory bumper-to-bumper warranty and you're reasonably certain the vehicle hasn't been in an accident. Better to buy the Acuracare warranty for less than a $1000 later. My understanding is that CPO is best suited for cars that have none of the original warranty left.

My 2 cents, but I am loving my TLS. I'll be sure to post separately. Yes, with pictures.

To the post above I agree. NEVER EVER buy a BMW without it being warrantied for your entire ownership. Those cars are rediculously unreliable. My moms 5 series was bad!
Funny story, I was in a best buy parking lot walking passed a new BMW (beautiful car it was some sort of higher end 3 series but not an M). I kid you not the car would not start LOL. It was cranking and cranking until the owner gave up haha.

The Type S is a great performer and looks great. Not a car you see everyday either. Sure its not the best performing car in the world but its very reliable, great on and gas, and has an amazing interior. I love my 07 KBP!!

it's a great time to buy a used or new car right now but to be honest the type-s is one of the worst buys at the moment because it's one of the few cars that has held it's value due to the limited production run. it's going to cost literally $10k more than an '04-'06. the '04-'06 will have higher mileage obviously but the type-s that i've seen used are in the 20-30k mileage range themselves. awesome car though!

I bought my NBP type s almost a year ago with about 22k miles on it for $27,000. Just recently thought about trading it in and took it to carmax for an appraisal. They offered $23k for which i was pretty happy about considering i put about 25 thousand miles on it but decided to keep it anyway. Couldn't justify letting a trouble free car go and stepping into something unreliable.... i.e. german.

Hey Man--

I traded in my 2008 TL-S 5AT w/ 33K...

Dealer gave me $25k on the trade... They listed the car for $33,000 on their website... and they ended up selling it for $27,300

$32k will get you a new (even tho u may not like it) FWD 3.5L TL.. and used cars = HIGHER apr

Why dont you take advantage of the special deals on left-over 09 TLs (if you like the car) you'll probably get a 2.9% APR depending on your credit

I've been struggling between the 4G and 3G and noticed just when I was about to get serious, Acura was named highest resale. That pretty much screwed my lowballing plan so I waited. 3G TLS's were harder to find all summer, now they are popping up outta nowhere. I'd say the number of used TLS's on the market nearly tripled in the last two months for the San Jose Yay Area. Maybe its the 4G manual combined with economic realities...

Glad I waited because I'm sure it will be much easier to get a fantastic deal going into winter...always gotta do your research and have a plan bud.
