SolarGard non-metalized Ultra Performance tint?

I want to get tints installed soon, but being in California I want to keep the front windows as close to the 70% legal limit as possible. I was leaning toward Formula One UV Shield since it's the only one light enough (75% according to their website anyway), but it doesn't seem to be non-metallic. I don't want to take a chance getting metallic and messing up the navi.

Another local shop uses SolarGard and on their website they describe their Ultra Performance as "non-metallized", but don't specifically say ceramic. It's seems light enough (76%). But has anyone used this?

While I'm asking, any recommendations for tint shops in the Stockton, CA area?

Right.... but they are rated at 50%, 35% and 15%. Not legal for my front windows.

Hey there!

I actually own a tint shop - perhaps I can help. 70% is actually what your bare glass will meter at. That means no tint. Specifically, in Cali they don't want you to put any tint on the front windows, BUT you can put whatever you want on the back and rear.

Usually, factory glass will range from 70 to 80. Thats why most tint shops only stock ~50%, ~35%, ~20%, and 5%.

Check out this poster if you're unsure about the laws:

http://www.solargard.com/Assets/PDFs...nting_Laws.pdf

Also, FWIW, SolarGard makes a quality product. Currently we're using 3M's line of films in metalized and non-metalized (carbon based) varieties but time to time we'll stock SG.

And you only need to be concerned with the back window of the TL if you're worried about navi reception.

Drop a line if you need more info!

Oh, and looking for a good shop in the LA or OC area of Cali if anyone has any recommendations.

Personally I wouldn't worry about metallic tints and navi, especially if you're looking at SolarGuard... I had metallic SolarGuards on our 2G TL, and the Navi worked fine, and still was able to see the same number of SAT as before the tint installation.

I don't know about recommending one, but I can tell you to STAY AWAY from Daytona Tinting, in Torrance. I had to take my car back 3 or 4 times, and they still couldn't get it right. I don't live in SoCal anymore, so I have no idea who to recommend....

Right now they are at $220 with the moleskin. Highly recommended through out this site. Do a quick search in the forum and you will see. If you call ask for Carlos.

That's what this site is all about!!! By the way I got mine done last Friday and they came out really good they even went all the way to the top of the windows. Again do a search and you will see they are highly recommended in this area.

Thats because they appear in every SoCal tinting thread on here. BTW, I close new threads on SoCal tinting shops since we have more than a dozen of those floating around. Just need to perform a search.

Back to the OP, I have SolarGard NR True Gray tint on mine: 35% fronts, 20% back. Installed with moleskin. No issues what-so-ever with my nav. It was, a year ago, $160 from Best Window Tinting in SoCal. It still looks great.
