So the TL fords deep water okay...
We're having crazy rain here in Chicago right now. I came home to my house to find almost all the roads in the area under at least 4" of water. Some areas it was upto a foot. I could see water upto the door seals on alot of the parked cars. So being the brave soul that I am, I drove on. Sometimes I even got a wave to break over the hood of my car. Tl made it fine. Just needed to down shift to push all the water out of the way. Got it into the garage and inside is still dry as a bone. ![Big Grin](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
So I guess you dont need to be afraid of sucking up water with the stock intake.

bah, Ive seen the videos of what manufacturers put cars through for testing. Water upto the bottom on my body panels isnt anything to worry about as long as you take it slow.

Now that the water is down, went out and took a spin to get the car hot and burn off any lingering water in the exhaust, etc. Runs like a champ.

I live in Chicago too...that scenario is exactly what scares me about getting a CAI on my car... what would you have done if you had one? Sat there on the side of the road in your car all night waiting for the water to drain?

Not sure if this is off topic or not but I drove in 1+ foot water b4 in my prelude. as I was drving the water wake would reach up to my window. I was prying that the car in front of me would not stop. cuz when you stop moving your done!

ive done the same in my 94 civic, cept it was more like a foot of water and blazers and other larger cars were getting stuck. so instead of driving slowly through it, i floored it and went passed everybody and continued on to work

Honestly I think the biggest thing you would have to worry about is hitting a puddle too fast and possibly bending the mounting brackets of things mounted on the front of the car.

Safety Car
I had a 98 Maxima that I drove through curb height water and the engine hydrolocked. It had the stock intake which was a scoop above the radiator. Bad design. Per the dealer they think water bounced up the front of the radiator into the intake track and locked the engine up.
Not all cars are the same. Personally I will never take a chance with high water again unless I don't have a choice. I remember when I had my G35, I went through water that I had no clue was this high but it was a one way street. It went over my hood for a few seconds and I let off and it went down. Do not floor it or drive fast. You force the water up higher in the front of the car causing it to get in places you don't want.
My brother a very long time ago in 1987 had a 1987 Ford ESCORT GT. It was flooding and I was with him. We were on the access road and saw cars go through this intersection. Well, after the intersection this water was going up half way up the cars doors. We couldn't turn around. So he went through it. He was going slow, but suddenly the car started to float and we lost traction. He started to give it more gas to help, it was pushing him through. But next thing the ligths on the dash started to come on. He FLOORED it once that happened. To keep the engine alive but also to get him going. We made it through and the car was fine after that. But it was stupid he even did that and I will never forget it.

Once in HS, my friend had an old VW Bug. We drove that car thru water so deep, it actually started to float and lost traction. I had to jump in the back seat to bring the rear wheels down enough to hit the pavement. If Teddy Kennedy had been driving a VW, he would have already been President by now...LOL! (thank god he wasn't driving a VW)
