So long TL-S
After owning it since it was new, I was forced to say goodbye to my TL-S, thanks to a freakin semi. Was driving to work about 2 months ago, sitting in traffic on the highway, and was rear ended by a semi doing 35mph. Pushed me into the car in front of me, and that driver into the front of him. Total damage was nearly $18k, insurance totaled it.
Pics of what's left of her, she'll be missed. In 59k miles, not a single issue.
Wats left of the back. Ugh.

The good news I can report, before it was smashed, I had 45k miles on the Redline D4 in the tranny, with no issues. Fluid was still red, no discoloration, no degradation in shifts, etc. So if it anyone was wondering if D4 was good for semi long usage, it's fine, at least in my expierence it was.
Yeah, I did upgrade. Got a 2013 Lexus GS 350 F-Sport AWD.

The F'ed up part, NONE of the airbags in the TL-S deployed. Hard to imagine it wouldn't trigger the sensor, everything on the front of the car was pushed back to the engine block. Motor mounts busted, and the freakin oil pan was punctured.
Performance wise, not much different. Build quality and use of materials is another story, GS destroys the TL in that.
Doesn't feel faster at all. GS is a tank with the AWD, it weighs 2 tons. Handling is pretty good, on par with the BMW 5 series, better than the TL-S. The ride height on the GS took some getting used to, the TL-S sat far closer to the ground.

Congrats on the Lexus and glad you're ok.
The airbag thing is no big deal. They're not supposed to deploy from being rear ended and you have to be going over a certain speed when you rear ended that car in front. There's a point where airbags can cause more damage and injury by going off prematurely. You don't want them going off on a 5mph hit where the otherwise uninjured driver ends up with a broken nose, hearing damage, and burns to the face from an airbag that never should've gone off.

Exactly what i was thinking
Honestly prefer the look of the TL-S, but it's just a different style of car.
Glad you're OK, a semitruck hitting you would be terrifying! Always sad to see another TL-S totaled as well

Were you wearing a seatbelt? To be honest, that really doesn't look bad enough to trigger airbag deployment. They're only supposed to deploy in a bad wreck, not a fender bender.

Not what I would call a fender bender.

PICS!
glad to hear your ok. At least you got to upgrade though.
