So I finally got nailed...

For no front tags.

Parked down in Chinatown, DC to watch a movie and some cop slapped me with a $50 ticket with TOW REQ. = YES

guess I should be glad my car was still there

My options are to admit, admit with explanation, or deny via hearings by mail...

What do you guys think I should do?

Admit with explaination and tell them the car wash ripped it off.

It's pretty sad they have cops writing up non-moving violations on parked cars, talk about cowardly.

It figures, the very same day it was ripped off at the carwash, you got a ticket.

You had it on your front dash, but because you weren't with the car and it was night time, you couldn't point it out to the honorable peace officer.

Good luck man. Now the next question - to go give in, and install the front plate?

I bought my car in NJ, so they already had the front plate hardware installed. But in PA, we don't need one, so I bought an Acura plate to put there. I have to admit, this has saved me from several bumper scuffs (the plate is dented!). Mostly while parallel parked in the city.

Keep the plate off and place it on the dash whenever you park somewhere. The car just looks so much cleaner without it.

Admit with Explanation.

Explain to them that your car is Kick Ass F'n Sick and a front plate on such a piece of art is a Crime Against Nature - an Automotive Disaster of Epic Proportion.

Include your Akoya pics as evidence.

Admit with explaination. Put it back or for the nano second it takes them to be happy. Then take that bitch back off.

screw the front tag, i freakin hate it. Ill keep taking my chances..

The cosmetic appeal far outweighs the fines that are associated with it in my opinion.

I got stopped by a state trooper just standing there at the entrance to the toll way. He just waved me over. He said "I made you pull over because you have no front plate". He told me to get out of the car, only because I have a CHL. So Im standing there and every other fucking car that drove by didnt have a front plate so I didnt feel so bad. He ended up giving me a warning. I always cooporate with them fully, you know windows down, hands on steerring wheel, yes sir no sir kinda shit.

Then about a week later he was at the same spot, when I pulled onto the entrance ramp I was thinking, awwww fuck, here we go again. He already had someone pulled over, he looked up at me, I just gave him a nice salute and went through the toll and took every gear to VTEC and was home in five minutes.

Great Idea! and let's not forget about great places to see a hockey game in Canada!

You could put the plate back on take a picture of it and send it to the court w/ your explanation telling them that the braket had been broken. The picture (I suggest even having it date stamped) will show you have put it back on. Of course after you take the picture then take the damn thing back off!

I have Virginia plates and they also require a front plate, however I live in NJ and have not had any problems without the front plate. I go to Virginia one weekend a month and have not had any troubles without my front plate, not to mention I also have illegal tint on my entire car.

For those of you who suggest putting the plate in the window. I also do this when I'm in virginia, however, if a cop wants too he can still ticket you. It's actually illegal to have your plate displayed in an improper location. I'm sure the fines are the same as improper mounting as if you were ticketed for not having a plate at all.

Anyway, another suggestion would be just pay the damn fine. It's not points or anything, so what's the big deal? You did break the law so it might just be easier to admit and move on.

Think of it as a "fee" to drive without your front tags. Pay it, and hope you don't get another one until next year. You can think of it as your yearly fee to have a better looking car.

I'll be damned if I put that damned thing back on!!! I think I'll admit with explanation. Back of the ticket says this may reduce my fine...

hmmm excuses, car wash broke it off...kinda weak

How about I got in an accident recently and had to replace the front bumper? or maybe somebody backed into me and broke it off...

goddamn i'm glad it didnt get towed...its only a 50 ticket vs a 500 towing fee.

Good advice on putting the plate in my front dash. I actually carry it around in my trunk just in case, but never thought of putting it up there while parking...

Aaaa, most (not all) "non-moving" violations take place on "parked" cars.. No different than a parking ticket.

Big picture,,,, if you're doing something wrong - be prepared for a ticket etc.. Would you prefer the officer wait in his/her car until you come back and then pull you over the minute you place it in drive/let the clutch out?

I wouldn't call it cowardly - cop could care less if you're in the car or not. They're just stirring up revenue all while spending less...... Just the way us tax paying citizens like it.

PS - I don't sport a front plate either

DC is the WORST for tickets!

I got a $100 fine for having my NY registration expire after two days while down at school. My parents were delayed in sending it up to me.

Lesson: Don't do anything remotely illegal while parked in DC

I would NOT suggest lying to the cops about an accident etc. They could send you a response, we're happy to waive the fee with the clause requesting to see proof of the accident. It's never good to start lying to the popo! DC Metro cops really need something better to do with their time.

The funny thing is is that the DC Metro PD has nothing to do with giving tickets usually. DC has an entirely seperate department of cranky ladies who like to give tickets for anything and everything. I was talking to a friend who is a cop there and he said they even ticket police cars if they are parked illegally. If the ticket was a flimsy printed piece of paper, then it most likely came from the ticket ladies. If it was a stirdy-written out ticket, it came from DC Metro PD.

Careful w/ excuses.. I think in California if you loose one of your plates you have to get a whole new set - so if it's personalized you loose it. (So telling them it fell off or you can't find it etc. could be bad)

It sucks when you get bumped in a parking lot and they break your lic plate braket, so you now have one on order from the dealership.....

i got pulled over earlier this week for no front plate, tinted windows, and having a sexy car. ok, maybe not the last one hahahaha

then he checked under my hood and gave me a ticket for my CAI.

pain in the butt. had to get it smogged by a state referee. nowi have to wait for them to get the ticket in the system before i can get it signed off with proof that it's legal. cop let the tint slide so i just had to put my front plate back on.

at this point, i'd rather not hafta deal with the 5-0 nemore and im just gona keep the front plate on. i know i know...

i live in Irvine, the cops have nothing to do here.

What's the reason for a front plate in the first place?

In Oklahoma we don't have a front plate law, no problems with tint as long as you don't tint everything 5%, and no inspection requirements.

Don't Tempt Them

Dude, those DC police are getting sophisticated these days. When they issue a citation, those people take your information, and keep it on file. It's likely that if they catch you again in their beautiful city w/o front tags, they likely will tow your car next time around.

I've seen people get a boot for violating the 2-hour limit. If you were in Chinatown, and still don't want to be wearing your front plate, maybe you'd want to park in a garage.

Beat me to it! Just pay the ticket man, it ain't going away because they don't give a fuck why you didn't have it on there...it's revenue at this point! If you want to floss without the ticket on, then park in a garage when you leave your car for extended periods in DC.

If you don't want to park in a garage, leave it on the dash. Simple! But forget about the explanation part. It doesn't matter at this point. Like Trance said, basically...ya gotta pay tha cost to be the boss playa!

Mine is coming off when I get back from Mexico in a week! Bon voyage mofos, or whatever! BTW Dogg...Chinatown is looking up these days! So is U St. I plan to roll up in there soon! You know how I do!

I haven't had front plates on my past 4 vehicles, never gotten a ticket here in CO. Got 2 tickets for tint in the TL, but when asked about a front plate I always say I had some work done and haven't put it back on yet. Hasn't failed me. Although I have never actually been ticketed for it, try and make excuses but $50 isn't that bad. It seems that area must not have a high crime rate...

Go to the dealer and yank a couple of those plastic circular license plate mount covers and putem on your car. In your explanation say your dealer neglected to drill holes in your front bumper to sport the front license plate and you were too scared to drill holes in it yourself. Ignorance is bliss
