soo as i was driving home from christmas shopping saturday night i started to pull out of the parking lot and all of i sudden i hear a grinding and then SNap my car stopped moving! Called acura roadside assistance, no charge i was happy about that when, the dealership called me on monday told me my axle snapped, wierd huh, so while they were replacing my drivers side half shaft they said my lower control arm siezed up so they replaced that to! then after they fixed that i told them to take it for atest drive cuz i thought i heard a whining threw first second and thierd and low speed, after the test drive they said they heard the sound and that it was probly a bearing in my tranny so now im waiting for them to take it down and tear it open! luckaly i have 68 thousad miles on my car and they powertrain warrenty is up to 70,000 so its all covered, anyways im kind of mad that my tl is falling apart!

I see it as one of the rare issues that could happen. The good part is that it sounds like it's covered by warranty. Hope it all goes well with the repairs.

 

Wow i wouldnt be mad at all! Thats a free tans rebuild or a new one and new parts with no cost to you! It sucks your out the car but the parts make up for it!

 

You're lowered and you have a 6mt. Nothing to get mad about.

i took it to jeffery acura in roseville, i used to go to troy but i hated it there they are snobs! I have h&r lowering springs on it so its lowered about 2 inches and they didnt say anything to me, im still waiting to hear back from him they dropped my trans on thursday so now we wait!

 

Sounds like they are taking great care of you.
Acura did the same for me when my 2G tranny went out, too!
Thats the main reason I bought a 3G.

so a little update on whats going on with my car, the service advisor called me yesterday and said they finally dropped the trans and opened it up, turns out the all my bearings are gone bad so he said they are ordering all new bearings and gears sets also! i was happy to here that cuz im basicly getting a whole new trans all under warrenty! they had to order the parts out of cali so he said it would be a few days untill they get here ill let you know how it drives when i get it back hopfuly mid next week! i cant wait to get my car back i been driving a jimmy for over a week now it makes me appreciate my car so much more!

 

It might be good to find out if new synchros are included in the new gear sets. If not it's worth it to pay out of pocket for new ones. With new gears, bearings and synchros you basically have a new trans.

 

yeh i was just thinking the same thing, funny you said that but i would think it would be stupid of them not to right? cuz the synchros would have started to go bad if the bearings were going also, one thing kinda leads to another sinario? im gonna call and ask them tomorrow

 

as said might as well do everything while it is out, and basically only have to pay for parts (if anything)

 

wow i need to replace my axle or else this may happen to me too, my boot has been leaking real slow for a while now. did you notice your boots leaking before the axle went out OP?

 

yeah it was slinging gease on my rims for a while but i never had time to fix it,now since it started getting colder i guess it was the last straw and it snapped when i was turning

J series transmissions are weak in general. IDK why but I've seen so many transmission go out. The engines are strong though, thats a plus.
