Smart Money magazine reviews the '04 Acura TL

A fairly unbiased article, IMHO.

"I could distinguish a regular CD from a DVD-Audio disc only while sitting in the driveway."

That reviewer must have awful hearing.

I thought that, too, but then considering there are bad DVD-A discs out there, that could have been the culprit, too.

Probably true. But why would a Linkin Park fan be reviewing cars for Smart Money?? :p

I can easily see how that might happen. I have a hard time telling the difference between playing MP3s on my iPod over an FM modulator as compared to a CD while I'm driving. That's because I'm not paying attention to the recording of the music while I'm driving. I'm concentrating on driving.

Sean

PS That Linkin Park disc is pretty good, and I hate all these "my life sucks so I'm going to beat you up" bands that seem to be so popular these days.

Having test driven the TL, both AT and 6MT about a dozen times, I think it was a fair article, to include the comment on the DVD-A vs CD comment.

They complain about FWD, but they also mention its positives. This is the style in which the Forbes article should have been written.

I can easily tell the difference between a well-done DVD-A and the CD. It's night and day if done right.

The reviewer mentioned wind noise, that's the one thing I've noticed is absent in this car. I can't remember the last car I've driven that was so silent at any speed, virtually no wind noise.

Overall though a good article.

Seen. I am reconstituting the collection and it will hopefully be ready tomorrow.

Lightbulb Re: Smart Money magazine reviews the '04 Acura TL...

But the car isn't quiet enough on busy highways or rough pavement to allow appreciation of the fancy sound system. I could distinguish a regular CD from a DVD-Audio disc only while sitting in the driveway. On the street, road rumble and wind noise overwhelmed the subtleties of the surround-sound. A docking station for an iPod might have been a hipper choice for the TL, but just how many potential TL buyers are also MP3 junkies is an open question.

Norse396, I see your point. In my case, I do feel the noise coming from driver side window, but it's definitely not as loud as this guy talked about.

Air Noise

TO neuronbob, cannot wait. Thanks.

I take umbrage with this comment. I find the TL to be very quiet. In fact its much more quiet than our '04 Nissan Maxima. And I can distinguish between DVD-A's and CD's while driving.

This reviewer must have hearing troubles.

And what's really perplexing is he seems to have oversensitive hearing when it comes to the noise (I agree the TL is quiet; it's certainly the quietest car I've ever owned), yet he can hardly hear the difference between a CD and a DVD-A.

Odd.

List is up, just waiting for a moderator to sticky it. Car and Driver's reviews are online now and I posted links so that debate will continue too.
