Silver fade??

Years ago silver was prone to fading or so I've been told. Is it something to be concerned about with new cars?

I think it still exists. I compare my car to neighbor's 2003 silver and it's not shiny as mine. Obviously clearcoat doesn't last indefinitely.

Mine's almost two years old. I haven't noticed any significant fade or other color problems. Some people report that silver is one of the colors that is most prone to slight mismatch between bumpers (plastic) and the rest of the body (metal). I have not had this problem, however.

I just sold my '99 silver TL and there was no fading. The back bumper was refinished after 4 years. The front bumper, hood, and front fenders were repainted after 5 years. All done to fix scrapes and chips by a quality body shop. The match was perfect and you could not tell original from repainted areas. There was no fading on the repainted areas either.

I have a silver 1988 Acura Integra which has not yet experienced any fading (although I'm sure the top clear coat is worn off). My '05 TL is also silver. I have not noticed any faded paint on any Hondas/Acuras for years, except for cars which had damage to their paint from abrasion.

Fading happens to cars because they don't take care of them. Regular washing and a little wax goes a long way when it comes to protecting your paint.

How many miles did you have before you sold the car? and how much did you sell it for? I was just wondering

It had 121,000 KM (75,000 miles) and private selling price was C$15,000 (U$12,400). It was in excellent condition, no scratches, but cracks in side of drivers seat. and a few other minor interior imperfections.

I never seen that neighbor waxing the car so that could be very true.

regular waxing is important
