Shut Off Auto A/C Option????
Shut Off Auto A/C Option????
I'm trying to find out if there is any way to make it so that when I turn on my fan inside my 04 TL the air conditioner doesnt automatically turn on. I know that if I just hit the a/c switch after it will turn it off but it seems as if there should be some way to not have it come on at all unless you chose to use it. I don't normally need a/c this time of year and it seems strange that no matter what it will always come on, even if it is cooler outside than what I have it set to. If there is another thread about this somewhere please direct me to it, I could not find a clear cut one. Thanks agian and sorry for the newbie question....
Yes- just push the "A/C" button on the right side of the dash climate control buttons while the CC is on "Auto"- that will keep the A/C off ("A/C off" will be displayed) until you either hit the A/C or Auto button, even if you turn off and restart the car.

Ya, I understand it will stay off in that case but as soon as the off system button is pressed it reverts back and the a/c turns itself back on when you turn on the fan, thanks for the help anyways, I'm just being picky about it I guess.

As I noted in the other thread- running the AC compressor several times per week is a good thing for the life of the compressor. The leading cause of AC leaks is lack of use. I'd be straight up shocked if it's costing even 1/2mpg this time of year. The compressor cycles on refrigerant pressure, and cool temps keep it low.
My suggestion- just leave it in Auto. The $25 you save in fuel over 5 winter seasons will be offset by the need to replace the $1000 compressor in the 6th summer.
