Should I get an extended warranty?
My 2006 Acura TL Navi is coming up to it's 4 year anniversary - that said, the warranty is almost up. Acura (Canada) is offering to extend the factory warranty from 4 years to 7 years and 160k kms for $2588.
Should I go for this? Has anyone signed up for it?

offer them a grand- and deal ONLY with the general Sales manager
not the salesmen looking for 1500 commission dollars flowing his way
and make sure what it really covers- lots of exclusions or 100 deduct per visit- no way
if you buy a used acura CPO certified with the warranty to 100kmiles
it cost an extra 1000-1500 for the warranty extension...negotiable is the key point
Profit is their motive,,will you need that many repairs in 3 years??
probably not- except transmission and electronics protection is worth having

Yup...I only care about the electronics...well, that's not true but I find the electronics the first to go. Anyhow...I didn't know I can bargain on these prices. I'm going to have to try.
Out of curiosity, do I have to get the extended warranty from the dealership I leased the vehicle from or can i get it from a different dealership?

When I bought my 2006 TL CPO they offered to extend the warranty to 7yr/100k for $1750. I wasn't interested, so I didn't try to lower it. My guess is I could have gotten it down to $1250 maybe. I never get extended warranties on anything just on principle.

Hi im new here, and just got my car 1mnth ago. I wasnt going to get the warranty, but 2 weeks after i bought my car (used 08TL) my navi crashed and my passenger window stopped working. Im pretty sure it would have been covered since the car was less then 30 days old, but still its nice to know that if anything ever happens im 100% covered. thats just me, but mine was a lot less then what ur being charged. i think mine was $1000 flat.

I was a believer in extended warranties, but I lost out big time on my TL. I purchased a car from the first “large production run” of 2004 6MTs back in the fall of 2003 so I thought the extended warranty was a good idea. Now at 98,000 miles I have had ZERO repairs on the extended warranty.
In my 95 Legend 6-speed coupe I had several repairs on the extended warranty and was glad I purchased it.
In my 98 RL I broke even on the extended warranty as I had a few repairs under the extended warranty.
Bottom line is that the cars today are much more reliable and I would not recommend purchasing an extended warranty.

I recently got an 07' TL Type S certified, still had some warranty left but i got another four years bumper to bumper for $900. It sounds like they are charging way too much, extended warranties are always negotiable.

I also own a 2006 and the warranty is almost up. Last september I purchased acura care 5/60 with no deductible for 1300 US dollors. I believe you can find a better deal.

I spent $1600 to do the acuracare extended warranty back in 2007. I have about 9000 miles left before it expires and havent had to use it one single time. I wish I could get that $1600 back. I could do somemore mods to the car : )

After I bought the car I got my extended warranty for around 2K until 2013 or 108K miles. In all honesty this warranty has been amazing! Honda has replaced the side mirrors for me because they were shuddering and they replaced the whole housing! All I had to pay for was either labor or shipping for them (75 dollars) on housings that otherwise would have been nearly 300 dollars apiece installed! Plus if any electronics fail like the radio or the navi, it's almost paid for itself! A new navi drive is almost 2K, one replacement and you ahead of the game. The radio stops working, 1000 dollars to replace it!
In my experience, the warranty is a great investment if you plan on keeping the TL long term. It's better to have piece of mind so that if your transmission goes or a lightbulb in the steering wheel goes, its covered.
and trust me, 2K for a warranty for these cars is cheap! An extended warranty on my 7 series costs in the 5 digit range! Nearly 11,000 dollars!

Called a dealership for the ext. warranty. NOT the dealership that quoted me the price. They offered me essentially a 7% discount (won't charge me the PST). Also, everything is covered EXCEPT the sound system/NAVI - which for me, is the one point of failure in a TL that would really require a warranty. I said no thanks. I'll try and negotiate with the first dealership.
They also suggested a aftermarket warranty from Industrial Alliance Pacific. Their price is about the same...maybe a $100 cheaper BUT I have to pay a $300 deductible. IF I don't make any claims, I get about $1500 back at the end of 3 years. Not sure if want this either.

PM or email citizenTim and see what he can do as far as warranties. He used to be able to sell them online, maybe he might be able to do something over the phone

I'm on the fence about extended warranties. A fair amount of us will not keep the car past 100k. I'm at 66k on my TL and **knock on wood** it has not had any major failures. I do plan on driving this car for quite sometime, but still I'd just keep the money in my pocket as I don't expect this car to fail anytime soon.
