Should I...?

...consider a black roof for my WDP? It's starting to grow on me, and I'm really on the fence with this one. It doesn't seem to be that popular of a mod, considering it looks the best on only WDP or SSM/ASM vehicles.

I would want it to be reversible for resale value, so I'm guessing a vinyl overlay is my best option. For those who have done it this way, how well does the vinyl hold up to the elements? Will it be high maintenance to keep up? What am I looking at cost-wise (ballpark estimate) to have this done professionally?

Your input here is important to me. I need to be nudged one way or the other. I can't make up my mind. Aziners! Speak up!

I've heard and read good things about the BlueBatmobile.net vinyl overlays. Plus, you can take it off for resale too. Give it a shot, buddy!

I don't know any of the logistics, but I'll offer my . DO IT! It's a really nice, and subtle mod. It's clean and tasteful. Just be careful not to go too crazy with that vinyl stuff...it's kinda like a gateway drug you know? Stock, it'd look terrible...but with a few other tasteful mods to complement your vinyl roof...........perfection! Maybe throw in some wheels..!!!

See? That's the thing. My car has some subtle upgrades (small drop, A-spec, TL-S tails), but I'm sticking with the stock wheels. So, am I going overboard here? Here is my car for reference...

Hey Red,

I did the vinyl overlay in August, and since then I haven't had a problem. I had a local graphics shop apply a one piece vinyl overlay made from 3M material. There are alot of other decal/sticker materials out there, choose wisely. The material also depends on thickness and weight.

I opted for 3M material and I am exceptionally satisfied. It holds up the intense rain and snow that Virginia has seen lately. I love this modification and could not be happier. Also, If your like me and wash your car, you'll be ok, some overlay material if you take it through a car wash like at a gas station the vinyl overlay might tear and rip. And again it depends on material.

Another note, there are a lot of products to keep the roof shining like new to take care of the vinyl. I like using a wax produced by Meguiars, keeps it fresh and doesn't have that faded look.

I think I paid around $175 including the material and installation.

DO IT!!

I voted yes. But, you'd have to go vinyl, because it's totally reversible.

Go for it! I think it would great on your car and I bet if you ever sell the car, the buyer wouldn't mind it.

It looks okay, but I'm leaning more towards no on this one.

It wasn't long ago I shared your opinion. But like the damn TL-S tails and window visors, it grew on me over time. If you asked me 6 months ago, I would have said "oh, hell no." on all of these mods. Makes me wonder why I give my input on things when I'm as changable as the weather.

Anyways...

I am concerned with resale value, but the vinyl overlay should solve that. I am pretty conservative when it comes down to mods for this car, and this one is going up to the next step. My biggest hang-up? I don't want the car to look like a stereotyped riceburner import (no offense to those who like this look; I just prefer things simple). It seems tasteful enough.

One more question to those who have done it. Did the XM antenna get wrapped with vinyl as well, or did you just paint it? I'm frowning on painting mine, and I'm wondering if it would be in my best interest to just pick up a NBP one from Acura and save my WDP one in case I desire the change back to stock. Again, thanks for everyone's input.

Another thought... For those of you who are voting "no", what is your reason behind it? Is it a style issue? Perhaps a potential material issue (highly prone to wear and tear)? Is it something that would look good on some TL's, but not specifically on mine? Just wondering...

If somebody has some decent PS skills, maybe you can do me a favor and simulate the mod on the photo of my car posted above and send a copy of it to my inbox here? Please?

Thats why I did the vinyl, vinyl is not pernament and does hurt the paint. Now if you were to paint it it would be a bitch to match WDP if you did not like it.

For the XM antenna I bought a Nighthawk Black Peral one and it matches perfectly!! I have done about 3 XM antenna swaps now and it take likes 5 minutes, literally.

here you go.
