Need a new transmission...

Driving a 01 TL with the original transmission at 123000 on the odometer. I've been looking around and shopping and i wanted some more options.

Here's my situation, Transmission is slipping should I...

- Rebuild?
- Replace?
- Or Sell?

If i rebuild can i buy better and stronger parts? what have you paid in the past for a rebuild?

If i replace the transmission should i drop the 06-07 Accord/Odyssey Trans in to it? what if i wanted to go manual? what manual transmissions are compatible?

Or should i sell the car? Because it is still on original timing belt and wp at 123000 on it..

Let me know what ones you guys suggest and would be the best way to spend my money, Thanks!!

Trans must come from an Accord >V6< regardless of trim.
Manuals are: CL-S for the LSD Differential
or the Accord V6 6 Speed Manual < But it doesn't have LSD.

Your best bet is to go with the AV6 AUTO trans < cost effective and a true fix.
If you go with manual you have to change a lot of stuff and its way more expensive than the AUTO swap.

The accord with the 2.4 or the 3.0?

Here's the situation http://www.autopartsfair.com/honda-u...theautochannel

AV6 like in Accord V6 = 3.0 and NOT HYBRID.. The 2.4 is a 4cyl totally incompatible.

Hey Sharma1492, first off ya may wanna have the tranny professionally evaluated. Which gears is it slipping in ? Have ya done any tranny PM such as replacing the fluid and filter ?

If the TL is in relatively good condition and you would like to keep it for a few more years, then consider investing the money in replacing the tranny with an '06>'07 Accord V6 AT and the T-belt servicing. So, for something like around $2500....you should have a dependable car for another 100k.

Ya gotta ask yourself: " Do I fix the TL or take on a newer car payment ? " The TL in it's present condition won't give ya much cash towards another car, maybe $1500 ? So, in doing the math: $1500 present value + $2500 in repairs = $4000 total.

What kinda money are ya willing to spend on a newer car ? A good used 5 year old car in nice shape will cost ya over $10,000. It's all about your personal desires and financial situation when making this decision.

I'm in the same boat. I have an Acura TL 3.2 2000 w/ 118000 miles and third gear just won't act right. I want to keep the car, I just worry about putting another poorly made transmission in with problems to replace my currently poorly made transmission with problems. I'd love to replace it and invest in the car and have it be dependable. I just don't want to replace it with another transmission that will start slipping in 70k miles.

Hey Chillbill, with only 118k on your TL and your desire to invest some money to get it dependable.....consider replacing the tranny with a used '06>'07 Accord V6 tranny. This tranny has been updated and has been proven to be much more reliable than the original 2nd gen TL tranny's. This has been the best overall value when replacing our tranny's. Check out some threads on the conversion.

So i am trying to order a 06 accord trans, i am confused by the option it gives me. it says 06 Accord 3.0 and the other option is 06 Accord 3.0 Vin M 5th digit.

What do i want? is there a difference between the v6 trans 3.0 trans for sedan and coupe?

Lastly, Is it a straight up swap? or will i need other parts?

^^ Just get the one that says Accord 3.0 06.

Its a straight swap just need to change a few parts of your original trans but not extra items needed.

How heavy? enough not to be lifted on your own... Need at least 2 guys to move that thing...

Delivered to the shop so you don't need to lift.. Unless you are buff.

To update all of you guys, the "swap" did not workout. They are NOT compatible. I ended up rebuilding and the estimated cost $2100-$2700

The Accord V6 is not compatible? Weird... I have one, and it was a straight swap...

Thumbs down

Maybe they didn't transfer the parts needed from the original tranny like the cooler and some other stuff.
