Shocks for 04 TL

Don't know if this has been posted, but for those who would like better shocks on the TL, they are available. I got this form KONI today.

"We actually have shocks out now for it. The part numbers you will need
are
Front: 8041 1322 L&R Sport
Rear: 8041 1329 Sport"

I don't know details, price or installation info yet, but for those interested they are out.

Good news! Thanks for the update. Konis + Comptech springs $$< A-spec $$$$

Wait...are they the Koni Yellows?

They are the adjustable sport shocks, which I am fairly sure are the yellows. I plan to get some more info on them soon and will post.

Question? When having the shocks changed on the 04 TL, would it not be fairly inexpensive to also upgrade the springs to Comtech or H&Rs?

Neuronbob, I agree. IMHO the combo of springs and shocks could really transform this car to ASPEC performance with minimum $$$.

I think the combination of Koni yellows (sports) and a high line spring (comptech/ h-r/eibach etc) will more than transform this car beyond A-Spec as far as handling goes for significantly less.

Yes, it would actually be less work because you wouldn't have to bother removing the old springs.

Perhaps, if the spring rates are right and you are willing to tune the dampening. Are you willing to try multiple sets of springs and turn laps/adjust suspension/turn laps/adjust suspension/turn laps until it is just right?

What about MUGEN? I heard all MUGEN shocks are actually manufactured by KYB!

I put Neuspeed Racing Springs with their 6 way (height) adjustable Yellow Koni’s on my son’s 95 Ex Coupe last year. The car handles like a slot car. The only problem is the 2.25” drop. It’s a good thing that Jacksonville’s streets are smooth.

BTW, The Neuspeed Koni’s are proprietary, you can’t get them from Koni. The regular Koni (Yellows) have only 3 height settings.

For the 04TL I would go with their Sport Spring/Koni combination (~1.8” drop).

Nah, too much drop for me, FlashG. The smaller drop offered by the Comptech springs is quite enough for me. The TL's wheel gap is pretty small, stock.

Yes, it is simple to adjust them - if you can reach them. This will definitely be a problem in the rear. In the front, the shrouding and the strut tower brace cover where the adjustment would be made.

I'm not trying to discourage anyone, but it would be easy to spend $800+ on Koni yellows + springs and end up with a car that does not handle up to expectations and is very difficult to adjust. Also, since compression is not adjustable on these dampers, spring selection is critical and none of the springs currently released were developed with Koni's in mind. IMO, the springs I have seen on the market were developed with little in mind beyond "lower the car". Cost goes up fast if you don't like what the springs do for the car and you need to install different ones or you need to pull the dampers to tweak ride height - which alters spring rates again. Keep in mind that you are designing your own suspension...

It may be worth waiting to see what Tein and others come up with for the TL. I would like to see some shock/damper packages specifically designed for the car. Tein has a cockpit adjustable system that may be a good match for this car. Also, I think ride height is adjustable on the Tein's without removing them from the car.

AEGIR, these are some of my concerns also. The ASPEC is at least a spring shock combination that has been developed together. IMHO the biggest problem with the TL's handling is the shocks. I think they were selected for a good ride on a smooth road , but tend to bounce and control poorly on rough and uneven surfaces. The TL needs better shocks for spirited driving. However, a slightly lower ride height of 1/2 to 1 inch is also desirable for handling, but the springs need to be matched to the shocks. I plan to wait until a package comes out that is properly matched. If this doesn't happen I might go with Konis and the stock springs.
