sell TL buy MDX?
I' am looking at selling/trading the 04 TL and buying an 06 MDX. I was wondering why there is no MDX sub forum? I was hoping to find some real world pricing information before I go into the dealership. If anyone can help that would be great, thanks.

FWIW the dealer who sold me my TL told me that in '07 the MDX was undergoing a MAJOR redesign. That said, I love the MDX the way it is now but just a heads up. If ya can find some photo's of the new design you *might* want to wait for it based on what you see. Best of luck with the MDX purchase!

I test drove an MDX, it was a very truck like ride, loud and hard.
The TL rides like a limo compaired to the MDX I test drove.
Why anyone would want to drive around in a TRUCK instead of a sports or luxury car is beyond me.
If you have to carry stuff, a pickup is good, and many of those ride better then the suv's around.

the MDX needs a major redesign cause its been the same now for so many years with only subtle changes. i would not trade the TL for an MDX. if you want a suv in the same class as the MDX maybe check out the FX35.

My former coworker had a Disco II. I hated riding to meetings with him in that piece of shit. He eventually traded it in on an MDX. The MDX was awesome compared to the Disco II and seemed very car like in comparison.

I can tell you that the Ford Explorer POS I traded in for our MDX drove like a truck. It had so much sway to it it felt like it would roll over if you cornered hard. By comparison the MDX drives like a sports car, I can't believe someone would say it drives like a truck.
In comparison to the MDX the TL blows it away in terms of handling, navigation is better, and the TL stereo is WAY better, you will be disappointed in the MDX if you like your TL.
We test drove Envoys, new Explorers (the Ford dealer somehow convinced me), Lexus RX330, Nissan Murano's, and I really think the MDX is a great SUV for the money. We also looked at Ranger Rover (the Land Rover not the Discovery), BMW X5s, and Volvo's. The Land Rover and X5 were really nice but you're going to spend a lot more $$, the Lexus was nice too but my wife really wanted the 3rd row seat in the MDX, and you had to upgrade to the Lexus GS to get their 3rd row seat (a lot more $$).
I can also tell you that for a number of years when I was in college I was a valet, so I've literally driven every car there is from Yugo's to Ferrari's and Rolls Royces, and for the $$ the MDX is one great SUV, just don't compare it to the TL or you'll be disappointed.
In fact, the reason I bought a TL was that I had my MDX in for service a few times and the dealer kept give me a TL loaner, and I kept bringing it back and saying WOW I want one of these! Then bought it a few months later...hehe... if they hadn't done that I wouldn't have even probably looked at the car, it wasn't really on my "radar" until then, you just don't hear them hyped all that often, now I'm a total convert!
Good luck to you, and, if you can, get both!

The MDX is a truck. It has lots of room inside and rides are moves very well for what it is and what it does. We love our 2002 X. I'm waiting for the new model because I want the features we don't currently have. Ours is a daily driver for my wife and is driven little. Works well for us when we need to haul things. Remember the TL is not very good at that.

I was surprised at how hard the ride was, I thought it would be on the luxury side.
Maybe they changed things?

I too have a 2002 MDX and a 2005 TL.
Both are good for what they are designed for.
Of course the MDX feels like a boat after driving the TL but it still accelerates well compared to many other SUVs/trucks and even cars.
Compared to the SUVs (Ford, Toyota) my friends have, the MDX is by far the better ride.
Get both if you can afford it.

I owned a 2001 MDX until I got the 06 TL. They're both great vehicles. I traded the MDX on on the TL deal.
I understand what Toynaround means about deciding that you're not a car-type guy for daily use. I do a lot of driving that takes 5-8 hours of traveling and the TL is a real pleasure on those trips. But when I'm just driving around town, I sure miss the X.
As for message boards, the AcuraMDX.org site has lots of useful information.

wow, i could not disagree more, the Tl has a sporty firm ride (sometimes jarring) and the MDX is a cushy soft plush ride. I also think the MDX is quieter than my TL. Its hard for me to get excited about the TL's handling and ride when I compare it to my Boxster. Not that my TL is uncomfortble or a bad, I just prefer for daily drives to and from work and errands etc, a larger vehicle is easier to get in an out of. Easier for stuff like baby seats, trips to the hardware store etc..

I didnt read all the responses so someone may have hit on this.
The MDX drives like a minivan, in every sense of the word.
I see no reason to own one because it is uninspiring and boring. The interior is fine, but beyond that there is nothing about the car that inspires me to want one.
I would rather spend more money on an FX or new Audi, than buy the MDX.
I dont know what they price for these days, or whether you're getting loaded, but I would DEFINITELY cross shop with some other options. (Murano, FX, 4Runner)

I personally am not inspired by any SUV's, except for the Porsche Cayenne Turbo . However, I still plan on eventually buying an SUV--probably the MDX--because of the utility it offers over my TL. I agree with Toynaround in that the MDX would be useful for times when I want to go out with a number of my family/close friends, and I want everyone to ride the same vehicle, or when I need to tow a boat/jet skis, etc. And I like the styling of the MDX, both exterior(running boards are a must) and interior.

A new one should be coming for 2007. The last one lagged the Odyssey by two years, and as a 2001 design its due. Given how much Honda/Acura has changed the TL, Civic, and Odyssey when they were redesigned, I'd expect much better styling inside and out with the new one.
On the ride issue, I've got to agree with those who say the TL rides harder. Those who think the Explorer rides badly, though, haven't driven the 2006. Handling, if you want an SUV to handle it's going to have to be one of the rear-drive-based competition.

Like some others here, I also have a MDX that my wife drives. The reason we chose the MDX over other options (FX, , RX) is that you cannot beat the utility and value of the MDX. The FX's cargo space is next to nothing and although my wife is a mom, she did not want to drive a momie's car (which she called the RX). The MDX has tons of cargo space, third row seats (not used often but nice when you need them), nice features, good design, plenty of power and a great ride (very carlike for an SUV but obviously you can't compare it to a car). As much as I love my TL, I would have to say that I have been more pleased with our MDX purchase. You won't be disappointed.
Back to your original question, www.acuramdx.org is a great forum and has tons of info.
