Seafoam in crankcase. How many miles should i leave it in?
I am about to do a seafoam treatment to my 05 TL with 67K miles. I did a search but did not find a definitive answer to how long should i need to leave the seafoam in the oil before doing oil change. Should I even bother adding it to the crankcase? Any help with this would be great. Thanks.

For your 15 minute "hot foot" drive, then immediatly change the oil.

its great in the crankcase- add 1.5 oz per qt of oil--1/3 can and drive 30 to 50 miles solid.. then change oil and filter
must have engine warm when changing so all the crud stays liquified and drains out--whatever the filter didnt get is still floating and you want that gone
optional: if your engine oil looks really bad now- install a new filter- any cheap one is ok- add 1/3 to 1/2 can seafoam and drive up to 150 miles then change oil and filter
I personally use vtec a few/several times to get cleaner run under pressure thru the valving for that- read of an issue with sludge in the vtec sliders so now I do my best to include them

because the gas and vac port method will cause some extra blowby getting crud into the oil- I wait a few days after those procedures before doing oil--but I am that way~

Thanks guys. I will do the gas tank and intake first and then later on do the oil since i am at 50% on the oil. Thanks for your help. I will just run it 10-15 miles and change the oil.

yes hit vtec one time
in 1st gear hold it in vtec for a couple seconds. that will really clean it up nice
also after a couple run let it sit for 10 mins and turn it back on a rev at like 2k rpm for a a couple sec then do oil change.

What do you mean by hold it in VTEC for a couple of seconds? how do i know it hit VTEC or it is in VTEC so i can hold it in that mode for a few seconds?

you cant hold it at 6000 in park- rev limiter is 5000 in that situation.
must be driving and push throttle full--when rpm gets to 4700-4800 vtec kicks in-- the car goes vrooom vroooom and pushes you back in the seat
Seafoams website is where I got my instructions from - they want you to drive 30 minutes solid if you can for really good results- that gives you time for several 5 second trips into vtec and back down below 4000 then back up again
You can do vtec in 2nd gear to avoid high speed=-100mph not needed for oil cleaning!
30 minutes is the time needed to dissolve the crud and make it liquify so it carries to the filter and the rest is in the pan--just idling isnt making much oil pressure and you want pressure=flow=cleaning
sure less time does work somewhat but at 10 bucks a can I want max results!
1 use of vtec is not going to put enough oil thru the system to clean the gallies- gen3 has a prob with vtec sliders grunging up and sticking- so make sure to do what you can to clean them--
I dont make this stuff up~
Vtec operates on sensing oil pressure change with rpm and uses oil to move the parts and make it work

have a good time!!
I cut my filter open afterwards- a new filter driven 150 miles with seafoam 6 oz in oil
wow- there was some ugly stuff in there- 90k miles on an 01

seafoam doesnt thin your oil so no worry about running it
in fact its 3 specific types of oil with specific functions- it wont hurt to let it push thru vtec and get the sliders cleaned
those sludge commercials on tv are right- thats about what it looks like inside many engines- even those changed on schedule or before
note seafoam allows up to 500 miles/1 month with close monitoring of dipstrick for sludge buildup
thats for old chevy restorations and other crud situations but its good to know

Well i just seafoamed my TL. Did 1/3 in the tank with 1/4 tank of gas and 1/3 through the intake. I will do the crankcase in a few days when i have to change the oil. Did not see as much smoke as my 2000 accord after waiting 15 mins and starting it up. Then i took it for a run at 4k rpm for a good 10-15 min drive. Seems to be running smooth but will see if helps with the mpgs. No CEL so i am happy.

Ok so I have tomorrow off. I want to do a few things on the car (05 TL) starting tonight after work.
If this sounds wrong let me know!
1) Gonna add 1/2 can (they only sell 16oz cans where I live, looked) to my crankcase and drive 30 miles (1hr) hitting VTEC where i can.
2)Gonna add the rest of the can to gas tank, i have 1/2 tank left at the moment.
3) Get the oil changed when i get home.
4) Tomorrow morning use deep creep in the VAC line.
Do i need to do anything else? I will do spark change at next oil change.
