SCRATCH! Learn from my stupid mistake...

Well...Friday afternoon there I was trying to take good care of my TL when I scratched it! Talk about Murphy's Law! I washed the car and put on a coat of Zaino. While the Zaino was drying I decided to clean the windows with Stoners. In order to clean the front window properly I bent up the wipers off the window and left them in the bent up position after I was done. I then proceeded to rub out the Zaino. When I was done, I put up the hood to wipe the Zaino off of the edges of the hood and forgot about the wipers in the bent up position and SCRATCH the back edge of the hood hits the wipers and takes the paint off of about 2 inches of the back edge of the hood. Totally pisses me off. Here I am taking care of the car and I @#$% it up in the process. I guess I’ll get it touched up when I take it in for my first oil change. Luckily, they have a body shop at my dealer. So the take home message is…

DON'T OPEN YOUR HOOD WHEN THE WIPERS ARE IN THE BENT UP POSITION!

I nearly did the same thing a couple of weeks ago, but stopped as soon as the contact was made and only got a little 1/16" chip or so.

Did the exact same thing Friday afternoon also! Small world. Anyways, I stopped just as I heard the hood hit the wipers and fortunately there was only 1 small chip. Used the paint touch up pen and I sware, you almost have to stick your eyeball on the car to find it. Paintpens, best $20.00 I ever spent for the TL.

I built a habit of cleaning the windows last when I detail my car so never really pulled the blades up till the very end. Thanks for posting it though because I was planning to detail my car this weekend. You have saved me and my car from possible self-inflicted heartache.

I have a SSM TL too and from what I've heard, metallic paint are the toughest to touch up or match. I have some OEM touch-up paint that plain out sucks. I'm about to try some enamel silver for building models. The paint is less thick and grainy as the other paint is. I figured it would stand out less and blend in better. I'll probably need to do a couple coats till the paint fills in the chip. I hope I will have higher success with this. I'll keep you guys updated on it.

One thing that happened to me cleaning the windows was when I was leaning over the car to clean the glass, I scratched the paint with my belt buckle. Now whenever I work on the car, I'm in gym clothes with no metal or belts to scratch the paint. Another lesson learned.

That's OK, no one is perfect, I ran into my garage wall, scraping my front bumper a couple of months back. $250 and 48 hours later, it was back in pristine shape.

Search eBay with "Acura touchup" and you'll find a lot. It is a well worth investment with paint on one tip and clear coat on the other.
