Saw something that made me kind sad.

I was on youtube watching some videos. I looked up tl type s and i saw some racing videos. It got whooped by an STI, Evo, RSX type s and an old BMW. I currently have an 03 tl. but after i come back from deployment i plan on getting the 07 or 08 tls MT. Would i have to boost it to be able to beat an STI?

I'd say you'd have to boost it, since bolt ons with a 6mt tl-s wouldn't put you anywhere near an STi

A few bolt on's should give you a good run against any non-new STi/Evo; straight line speed is not exactly their high point.

my good buddy has an STi...it is crazy quick.

i do not race my type-s, it's just not my thing. but even if i thought i had a chance against him, i wouldn't take it.

type-s is not a race car, it is a midentry-luxury sedan. STi's do what they do bc they're made for it. type-s, not so much.

regardless of all of that, i just think the 07-08 type-s' are beautiful cars. they will look good years from now and thats why i bought one.

i'd be looking at a different car if your need is for speed.

A lot of it has to do with the person behind the wheel. For sure a TL-S can beat a RSX though. If you want to go fast you can always buy another car. The TL-S is simply just a luxury car that has some power under its belt. If you want fast sports car go with a EVO, STI, M3, etc.

I was going to get an STI but i got hooked on Vtec. haha. But im def. going to boost it. I noticed my 03 is more of an acceleration car rather then top speed. Is it the same with the 07?

Two different vehicles as the TLS is far from a high performance vehicle, but just do the math, 305HP/3200 lbs AWD to a 286HP 3500 lbs FWD vehicle. Looks like you'd need to get the HP up to around 335 to equal HP/wt ratio, then there would be the traction problem with the TLS.
Looks like in the 1/4 the TLS would be about .6 second behind, not much in time, but it equates to about 6 car lengths.

You're definitely going to need to boost or juice a TL-S to hang with an STi or EVO...mostly because most of those are modified anyway ha. I hardly ever see stock ones anymore.

TL is slow but believe I can beat more than half number of cars in my school . STI and Evo are strong HP/buck but I like to compare (beauty per centimeter)/ buck. I think TL can go against RSX. In youtube, I believe that people rarely post the losing video so XXX vs YYY, XXX will win . Anyway I have the same feeling with you when I first got the car then go to youtube.Their car, they drive , my car , I drive , they got beat , I am not .

If you want to beat everything and anything Buy a BIKE!!! Want Great gas mileage buy a Honda civic. Want one of the best looking cars on the road buy a TLS! Wait a min.... I have a 2002 CBR 954RR for speed, a 91 Honda Civic with 292,000miles i use for work and a 2008 TLS for making people jealous as a drive buy

I know there is a guy on here who has been light weighting his TL and has seen some huge gains. not sure if he has race'd anyone but making your car lighter is easy and cheap way of making it faster.

good luck with your buy!

Um, my dad has an '09 Z06. What would I have to do to my TL to beat it?

I'm sorry...I'm just in a sarcastic mood.

aw c'mon guys...you guys aren't giving the tl-s 6mt a fighting chance! have you guys actually seen IN PERSON how the car fairs against the sti? a particular member on here has run a dig with a sti, and the outcome was essentially even. the sti took the tl-s 6mt from a dig by half a car length and he tl-s stayed even at the sti's fender...all the way up to about 120. same results with a fully bolted on 350Z (lost by a car from a roll from 20) - Z has different gearing as well (4.08 or something or another?)...

FWIW, I beat an '05 or '06 RSX Type-S with I/E 3 times;
- 1 dig
- 2 20-25mph rolls

and I smashed another one with I/E as well on the highway. Pulled harder on this one.
- 55 roll

Uhh.... how about, who cares?

If racing is really that important to you, as mentioned.... get a supercharged Cobra or an STI. They do what they do really well and have great aftermarket support for performance. The TL-S on the other hand is only above average when it comes to straight line races.... but its great at basically everything else.

Better plan on spending a lot of cash for boost. STIs on the other hand, don't need much at all to make power. Same with basically any other car that already has forced induction. I don't know of many STI drivers who race their cars stock either.

Plus, races from a roll are pretty :ghey: after a while. Been there, done that. Basically whoever has more power will win at that point, unless your car weighs as much as a tank or it's manual and you can't shift for shit. All you're doing is waiting for the count, then stomping on the pedal. You'll probably shift only once, and even if its kinda slow it won't make or break the race. Just my opinion.... flame on.

My stock 05 MT can keep up with an STI, they are AWD and slow. You have to beat the shit out of the car and launch it good to get a great time.

When I had my car boosted I turned onto 18 and he heard the whine. He gave me the old 'is that boosted, well want to race cockyness', so we raced and I beat him, all 5 times. Look on his face was priceless, so priceless he did a ricer fly by and sped off into traffic. I came from an STI and the only thing I miss is the BOV/exhaust note and the AWD. I used to love that car in the snow.

Two totally different cars, but in my stock TL I have beat a G35, 350Z slightly pulls away, STI was even (from a roll), EVO pulls a bit(from a roll) and I kept up with a 04 GT mustang. The funny story was the Mustang kid had his GF in the car and my friend was in my passenger seat and it was from a roll, the look on his face was priceless as well.
