Saw The New Backup Sensors Today
Acura STILL doesn't get it!
They're practically the same stupid open black holes just like before with just the outside part of the rings painted to match the car's color. Even my dealer's GM agreed, "WTF is Acura's problem?"
Believe me, if they were now made to look like just like the factory backup sensors on EVERY other make and model of car, I would have had them installed, no questions asked.

The dealer's parts manager offered to order them for me with the condition that if I didn't want them, he'd return them to Acura. This was their 1st opening of a box of the new sensors and his & the GM's 1st glance at them. The outside rim was painted the exact DGP of my car.
Both their opinions: :wtf:

I like to see the comparison if possible.... THANKS.

The dim tail light problem I complained about in an earlier thread was determined to be a bad LED panel which had to be ordered overnight. According to the Service Manual, they have to completely remove the rear bumper to replace it.

Ok, sounds like the very bad idea from Acura. I hope I could see it personally...
About the dim tail light, I guess your left and right taillight is significantly different, right? Either my acura dealer lacks the ability to figure that out or my dim taillight is under the reasonable range of difference.
Maybe you should wake up your thread out there, too. Thanks. http://www.acura-tl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92223

i have a dealer installed backup sensor... just not the $800, holes in the bumper version... it uses multiple sensors with doplar radar and are installed behind the bumper... they work perfect and the beeps are louder than the Acura model, which can warn you better as well as annoy you... my warning light display is mounted on the headliner, near the rear window, dead center... the light is visible while backing up, both through the rear view and when turned and looking out the rear... if Acura fails to follow through with the flat style sensors, this may be the best alternative at around $300...

RETS -- I believe the sensors are supposed to be mounted horizontally; these were done vertically.
somewhat related - my friend's new VW Touareg V8 has the factory backup sensors which are behind-the-bumper.
They also have the helpful green/yellow/red LED's in addition to beeps - very classy system and better than the TL's.

I seem to see some fuzzy effect around those holes. Installation failure?? (Is it only me or you guys see the same things?))

This car has almost perfect installation.

This one is so called "new" flat style. Pic by DMZ. If comparing with two above, they do look very similar.

Does that $300 include both the device and labor?
Is there a volume control?

this must be some aftermarket sensors you had installed tizo, if the dealer did it, do you think you could get the product info from them? that would be helpful, thanks!

Tizo -- I love the sensor and the red/yellow/green LED. DEFINITELY interested if you can get info.
RETS -- Regarding the fuzziness around the rear backup sensors, I'm guessing that it's actually a JPEG (image) thing and not really the installation.
So if you take a picture and save it as a lower quality JPEG (Adobe Photoshop for one gives a sliding option) you'll notice that the transition between colors (and these sensors are an excellent example) has "fuzziness". This is due to the LZW compression and not indicative of the original image.
Since there are two different photos (different angles) it could be the computer image software or there really could be a poor installation.
