Which ones are safer and stronger? Aluminum or steel jack stands?

there are different types of stands for different kinds of cars, depending on weight.
some are truck stands...and some are car stands....
better find out the rating of the ones you are looking at.

 

assume both have same rating. Steel stands are safer on the wallet. I really want aluminum ones to put in the car, but they are like 4 times the cost of the steel ones.

Aluminum are just lighter

 

I has aluminum one and has been using for years support various type of car from RX300, TL, RL to LS460 (heavy pig) without issue. The brand is Torrin (if I not mistaken) but like other member said the price will put a dent in your wallet. I paid $80 for a set but they are really light compare to the steel one.

 

OP not sure where you live but Harbor Freight has some good deals on the aluminum ones when you use coupons. 3 ton is more than sufficient.
