help! p2610 code

before this code came up my car was jerking a losing power. got it towed home and once i got home i attempted to start my car but once i put my key on the acc position without even cranking the key my car started on its own. on the mini display a message came up saying "check starting system" after so many tries trying to figure out why it was doing that, my car wont start no more. no crank nothing. cel came up and got the code p2610. i checked the starter and ignition switch everything came up good. i jumped the starter and it cranked but wont turn over so there has to be a something going on with that code not letting my car start. also i realized that i was able to shift from park to any other gear without pressing down brake so im thinking i might have a bad neutral safety switch but i dont think that would cut off fuel? idk i could be wrong.. any advice would help. just trying to see if i did everything possible before taking it to the dealer. bty its a 08 TL base

it means its not detecting the "engine off timer" I havnt had this problem but maybe someone else has who will chyme in. Start by checking all your fuses cause its quick easy was to diagnose issues. Dont get your hopes up but I have come across real scary and stressful situations where all it was is a broken fuse.

I would pull the ecu out and check to see if it has water damage.
the A/C drain tube likes to get clogged which then spews water onto ECU...
this may or may not be your case, but it would be worthwhile checking to see if ECU has water damage

Checked it and ecu was a bit wet... worst case scenario.. if I buy a used ecu I would have to get it reprogrammed to my car right?
