Is it safe...

My appt for oil change is not till Saturday. Is it ok to keep driving the car till then. Right now, I'm showing <10% oil life. I drive to and from work everyday.

Thanks.

It is safe. You still have a couple of reminders to go before you would have to worry, like "service due soon" when it gets down to 5%, and even then you would still have time to get the oil changed, so relax and get it done Saturday.

Uh yes. When it says "Due Now" that's when you should start worrying.

It should be saying due soon now I believe. I got mine changed @ 5% when it said Due NOw

BTW, how many miles do you have? Is this your first oil change?

I believe "due soon" is at < 15% and "due now" is at < 5%, based on two things--(1) mine said "due soon" at < 15% last week and (2) I RTFM'd (or should that be R'dTFM?)

I RdTFM but I got a mental block where it said 15 and read it as 5. My goof. But at least more people are reading the manual now.

Would you believe I did it on purpose to see if anyone would catch it?

No?

I thought not.

I read the manual last week, actually, simply because when it first said "Oil Life <15%" I wanted to figure out whether and when the service light would come on.

I have about 3278 miles and this will be my first oil change. I'm bringing it to Rallye Acura in Long Island.

I had about 4250 when the service message came on last week. I had 4584 when I took it in this past Monday for the oil change (this was the first oil change) and the MID still wasn't down to "<5%."

I like the $0 bottom line on the bill from the dealer (Radley Acura at Bailey's Crossroads, Virginia--the only one close to my home and work).

I plan to do my first oil change at 1000 miles, I'm not into that 5000 mile jazz for a first oil change. I'll change it thereafter around every 4000 miles.

I hope I'm right this time but there isn't any service "light", but the appropriate message will appear on the MID each time you turn the ignition switch on (page 64, right hand column).

I can't figure out from reading the manual if all three messages-service due soon, service due now, and service past due, appear on the display, or just the past due message.

I have only done one oil change so far, at 20%, so I can't say for sure when the reminder will actually show on the MID when the key is turned on. Anybody know for sure?

I have roughly 6600 miles now, <15% oil life, and my first change is scheduled for Friday morning. The "Service Due Soon" message will appear every time you turn on the car after <15% shows up, and it will clear once you press one of the keys.

If you wait a little while after clearing, then hit an arrow key to switch screens, the message will display again as a reminder. You can clear it again and then go through your screens as normal. It does this every time you try to switch, if enough time has passed since the last time you switched.

Didn't I read once that Acura puts some sort of additive in the oil to help the engine "set" correctly and therefore we shouldn't do the first oil change right away (~1000 miles) because we will then lose that additive?

Does that sound familiar or did I dream that?

I have read that also (on the forums of course, I don't have the car yet!)

Nah, you did read that here. If you search some of the A1 service threads I'm sure you'll see it.

I got my first oil change today @ 5400 miles. That plus topping off my fluids cost me $32; not bad at all. They didn't bother to rotate my tires since I put new ones on 4000 miles ago.

Holy crap, $32?? My dealer gave me a quote of $65 for A1 service. Hmm. Maybe I should check with some other dealers first.

The $32 was for just an oil change; he didn't get the tire rotation.. Your dealer probably gave you the $65 quote for the oil change + the tire rotation.
