Sad Story with a Happy Ending

Sad Story with a Happy Ending
I broke my daughter's heart today. Today I traded my S2000 in on a '06 TL. My S2000 was six years old with only 9,000 miles on it, but all of those miles were spent driving with my daughter. The only reason I kept this car was for those special moments a father has with his daughter. We would take Sunday drives up Pacific Coast Highway thru Laguna and Newport Beach, Calif. I would also pick her up from school in it. In her eyes it was her Ferrari. My wife wouldn't drive it and it was taking up room in my garage as a third car. Well today I figured it was time for a change. I told my daughter we would be taking one last ride in it. I hadn't back out of the driveway when the tears started rolling off her cheeks. She cried all the way to the dealer. As I was making the deal on the new TL my daughter went outside and said her goodbyes to the S2000, she even brought her camera to take final a picture. It broke my heart to watch this.
Now for the happier part of the story. I let my daughter have a say in what color to pick, she thought the Navi was way cool, and when I told her we could get an Ipod adapter, things started looking up. We had a nice ride home and in time the S2000 will become a memory.
I too will always cherish the memories of those special times a father spends with his daughter.
I'd like to thank everyone on this forum for all their insight and knowledge. It a big help during negotiations with the dealer.

Welcome to the board, Joe, and congrats on your purchase! I hope I can have such a close relationship with my child when he/she is born shortly. Mod it up a bit and she'll enjoy being picked up from school in the TL, I'm sure.

Great story! I'm sure you and your daughter will have many more "sentimental journeys" in your new car. Enjoy!
(As usual, it took all of 5 posts for some wandering troll to attempt to turn a nice thread negative. Ain't the internet great?)

Thanks everyone for such kind thoughts. When I first posted this I was afraid I might get flamed. It sounded a little too much like "Ward Cleaver" on "Leave It To Beaver". My daughter is now 15 years old, she was 9 years old when I bought the S2000. I bought the S2000 on 9/25/99 the first week it came out. During the first couple weeks of ownership, everywhere I went people would stop and ask questions about the car. I've owned alot of cars and the S2000 will go down as one of my favorites.
I also think my daughter might have hoped this would become her first car at 16, but this would have been totally irresponsible as a parent.
Wishing everyone a Safe and Happy New Year.
