RP has not been around very long, and its ad copy reads like a marketing man gone berserk, rather than a sober engineering oriented company. I do not know any of my friends who are tribs or SAE members who use it.

On their site last year, I found a huge "oversight" - they were hawking one of their non-synoils as a synoil - it was eventually "corrected", but no banner headline to clarify for those who had already bought into it - they probably still do not know.

I think any oil company that has to get a trade or service mark for its purple bottle has issues.
This is a quote from RR on his standpoint on Royal Purple. Others have used it no problem so its really up to you...

Here is the link to the thread discussion about mobil1 (has a few posts about RP as well)

Hope this helps.

Very good analysis by RR. I would stick with the Mobil if you want to stay with synoil, or perhaps go to Amsoil synthetic.

I also have problem with mobil which recently dropped to a lower group, but still advertises as full synthetic. I just got a caseload of amsoil.

Yeah.. I was shopping for oil last night and saw the RP stuff. Decided to go with mobil1 instead like the vast majority here. I may switch to amsoil stuff just to try it out next time around.

I remember RP claiming an increase in 5%HP with their oil.

Amsoil is good, but I just checked my invoice from 8.22.05 and they've increase their price for a case. I'm going to give Mobil1 a try.

ive been running royal purple for over 6 months and it's been doing fine, but i just have to change it frequently, no more than 3,000 miles can go by or it starts to lose its effectiveness. i plan on switching to MOTUL. you guys should check it out.

True, but I can still save more money by going with Mobil1 with the same added benefit.

Royal purple in my $13k race motor 20w50 , Mobil one 0w20 in my TL. I work for one of the major oil companies (M@B!L) and can give you plenty of info but in the end it is still consumers choice. CleanCL, you should be able to go longer then 3k with ANY syn oil, if not then you must be tuned excessively rich and the fuel degrades the oil not the oil itself. I can almost go a whole season on RP in my race car (about 100-150 passes) if im just running N/A but with N2O ill only go about 20-25 cause i run it on the safe side of rich
