Rotor Lip? Squealing? Imminent death? Help!

so, I've been hearing squealing from my brakes on moderate/hard braking for the last 500 miles. Didn't worry too much based on so many other reports on this site.

Inspection showed lots of pad left all around (80%). I've noticed a lip on the outer circumference of my front right left rotor (between 1/16 and 1/8 inch, very noticeable), such that the pad must be fitting into and wearing down a channel on the rotor. Is this normal, or problematic? I've never seen this on my previous cars, or the wife's accord. it certainly looks/feels weird.

Any advice? Thanks!

An 1/8 of an inch is a sh|t-ton of wear in a rotor so I really hope the groove isn't that deep. For an example I just serviced the brakes on my wife's Odyssey. At 55KMi the pads were shot but the wear into the rotor (lip at outer edge) was not especially visible. Not even near a 1/16". She had some warps so I put on new rotors so no measurements were taken on the old.

So if it really is that deep, and you don't do your own work, you need to get to a repair shop or dealer NOW and have it looked at. I doubt death is imminent since you are no-doubt driving very cautiously at this point. Something is not right and it won't be getting better by itself

As rotors wear, you will get an unworn lip around the outside edge, that is normal.
No car has the pads go out to the very edge, as that would cause problems.

I dont know if the amount of rotor wear you have is normal, how many miles on the car, what type brakes (brembo?).

Some cars use soft pads and will wear the pads out first, and you can go through 3 sets of pads before the rotors are worn, other pads are harder and will wear the rotors in one pad set.

The harder ones tend to make more noise and be more of a performance pad...
