Bad gas or what???

Coming home this morning, I stopped at the local gas station and filled up with 93 octane premium. I was just over half a tank. I drove about a mile, to the library, and then headed home. When I started to leave the library parking lot, the car acted real jumpy, like it wasn't wanting to go. I made it out onto the street, but the check engine light started flashing. The car had no acceleration and was missing real bad. I pulled into a parking lot and the idle was struggling to keep the engine running. I shut it off. I opened the gas cap and re-tightened it, to make sure I got the three clicks. I tried starting it but she will not run. Acura Roadside service sent the flatbed and hauled her off the the dealer. It's an '04 AT with 14,000 miles on it.

I called the gas station and asked if they had any problems with the premium gas. Of course not, says the helpful fuel attendant. I told them my car died a mile after putting their gas in and if there was a gas problem, me and my attorney would be coming for them. She assured me they had not had any problems with their fuel. I'll call the dealer on Monday and have them look at her for me. Anybody have bad gas episodes like that? Bad gasoline, not the other bad gas episodes you guys!!!

If you had over half a tan, I doubt the new gas would have been potent enough to cause that problem, but I dunno.., , ,almost sounds tranmission to me

sucks though . .

Could be bad gas...

Read this: http://clublexus.com/forums/showthre...2019&highlight

Different car and symptoms, but it certainly shows that bad gas is a possibility. Best of luck to you and please keep us posted.

This happened to me several years ago and it turned out that diesel fuel had been put into the wrong tank at the gas station. Since I really couldn't go far, no harm was done. They drained the tank in my car and gave me a couple of free tankloads for the inconvenience.

Gasoline floats on water.
The fuel pickup on all cars is on the bottom of the gas tank.
So if you get a load of gas with water in it, it will be the first thing to get sucked into the engine.

Diesle is the most likely cuprit, happened locally a few months ago caused a real mess. It isn't hard for the knuckle dragger to fill the wrong tank...

I will bet on water....

Very rarely do they put diesel in the wrong tank... but water is a problem for all tanks... if thier tank was low they could have picked it up..

I have had two friends with the water problem... one had a full quart in the tank. The worst part is that the wrecker that hauled his car was not a flat bed and scrapped the side of his car on a pole...

I did have a wrecker near-mishap. The tow truck guy got the towing eye bolt, out of the trunk. He popped the plug out of the front bumper and screwed the eye bolt in. He hooked the winch cable to it. He had the car almost all the way up on the flatbed, when the eye bolt broke. My car came flying down off the flatbed in a hurry. The tow truck driver, my son and I all went Holy Sh_t!!! The car was heading for a swamp, behind the parking lot at the CVS. We all three ran after it and got it stopped before it disappeard into the murky water. I did have to throw that pair of shorts away. Ruined forever. My poor baby almost went swamp diving. The tow truck guy said that was the second Acura towing bolt he'd had break on him.

He had to hook the tow chains up under the car. The second time, I rode her up on the truck, with my foot hovering near the brake. Wasn't taking another chance she was going to get away. All in all, it was not a pleasant experience. I'll call the dealer tomorrow morning to tell them my tale of woe.

I had some interesting observation the other day.

My car had nothing but Chevron premium since I acquired her. I pulled into my only gas station and to my dismay I found that they ran out of premium. I went to another Chevron station and found they ran out as well. By this time I was a little desperate and found a Amacco station and put in about 5 gallons of Amacco Ultimate.

As soon as I start the car my car felt funny... It's not like misfire or anything like that, but it felt like the throttle is very jumpy and I had problem modulate the throttle. The car lurges a couple of times... (gas... nothing.. then all of sudden WAM!)

The TL also felt weak, as if another A/C is using the same engine. It also felt like another big guy is sitting in the car. The throttle response was not crisp.

Anyways... my station got premium back today and I quickly filled up the tank. I am happy to report the TL is back to her regular self again!

Funny, all I use is Ultimate and never had a problem. Must have been the end of the tank since there seems to be a run on premium in your neighborhood.

Update or not

I talked with the Service Manger, this afternoon. They said it threw all kinds of codes saying all six cylinders were mis-firing. He suspects water in the gas. They had drained the tank, given it an enema and were waiting on fresh gas. I didn't hear anything back by closing, so I guess she ain't fixed yet. Maybe tomorrow. It sucks, because I can't have a loaner, since they suspect gas and not an Acura failure. So I'm without a car until they figure it out. And I'm probably gonna get charged for the service/ towing and will have to fight the gas station to get my money back. Life SUCKS!

I also told the Service Manager about my towing eyebolt failure. He told me he'd talk with the towing company about it. Big whoop. In the meantime, I've got a broken eyebolt and the threaded hole, in my bumper, has a broken off bolt stuck in it. I guess if the eyebolt is wrecked, I don't have to worry about using the hole in the bumper.

Survey says....

It turned out to be water. The dealer drained all the gas out, but couldn't get the 2" of water out of the tank. They had to go rent a special pump to get most of the water out. They ran cleaner through the lines to dry up as much as they could. They ran 4 gallons of fresh gas through. I brought her home, tonight. It sputtered a couple times, but NO check engine light.

I talked with the manager of the gas station, this morning. He told me to bring all my receipts in when I get it fixed. I assume he's meaning to reimburse me. Total for Acura and the bad gas and new gas was $420.00. We'll see how agreeable he is tomorrow. Wish me luck.

all stations (here in NJ) are required to prefilter at the pump. when (if) these filters get water passed thru them they will completely stop the flow of fuel. it is very, very hard to bypass this filter system. it is very, very easy to spin on a new cartridge...

Let us know about how the gas station reimbursement turns out. Sucks about the towing mishap.
